[TESTING] Kodi v19 builds for Vero 4K / 4K +

I realize this is the vero test build thread but just want to let you know I am facing the same issue on rpi4. Have to install all dependencies manually

If you’ve cleared your userdata directory, I suspect we’ll see other users experiencing this problem as well.

hi, I was staying on top of 4.9 builds, system was very stable, I could re-boot without blank screen events, switch inputs on the AVR without hassle, no ARC lockouts. I’ve also run v19 on a Shield without issue. With the test v19, rebooting the Vero causes the AVR lots of grief, it does not switch inputs, I get ARC issues and I can’t get back until a full power-down. I tried the HPD lock and that did not help.

I’m not so dependent on the Vero in my main system these days as I have other options for 4K mkv playback, and I could use it in another system, but happy to test a bit more in case this can get fixed.

I’ve seen the same thing. It will not automatically install the dependent addons from my 3rd party repo. It will tell me it is going to, and then fail to do so.

However if I go find the deps in the offical repo and install them manually myself first, it then has no trouble installing the original 3rds party addon once the dependencies are already there.

On a related note, I’ve noticed if I go to “Install from Repository”, and choose “All Repos”, it only lists the addons in my 3rds party repo (which is the last repo in the list). It is not showing the official addons under “All Repos”. If I go directly to The offical repo (instead of all addons) I can see them. Not sure if that could be related to the seeming inability for a addon from a 3rd party repo pulling in dependencies from the offical repo.

How do I submit logs when the crash leads to a terminal with osmc login prompt? Should I sign in and type grab-logs -A?

Yes that would be best. But a crash that would not restart Kodi would be quite strange.
Or you can go in via SSH and then execute grab-logs -A

Cosmetic bug… In Settings, under Player/Videos there are three settings which let you choose whether to use hardware acceleration for different codecs. There are three possible settings for each, which are “Always”, “Never”, and “HD and up”. The “HD and up” option still works, but it’s displayed as a blank string rather than as text.

Anyone else getting a “connectivity issue” error when trying to update via My OSMC > Updates? I tested my connection and it is working fine, so the problem seems to be somewhere else. When I try to update using the command line, nothing gets updated. I’ve added deb http://apt.osmc.tv buster-devel main to my sources list.

Provide output of grab-logs -a and maybe also what is shown when you run
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

That’s interesting. If I do the same thing with Kodi on my Mac, I see all the add-ons. I noticed with Kodi 19 that OSMC is now showing the main repo as “Kodi Add-on repository”, but with Kodi 18 it shows as “OSMC repository” (or something like that). So I wonder if the change of repo name is causing an issue (I figure the Vero team has to do a custom build of Kodi with that change, and maybe there’s a spot somewhere in the code that is filtering base on repo name or ID that they missed when they changed the identifier for the main repo).

Here is a link to my logfile.

sudo apt-get update

gives:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Thanks again!

It should be buster-devel, not buster-level.

Same here - took my quite a while to find this remedy. Something is definitely off with the repositories in this build. Or maybe it happened because I just updated from the old 4.9-version

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Wow, I feel stupid! Thanks for letting me know.

Not piling on with the Kodi add-on repo issue, but I did want to document another oddity. There are some add-ons (like the default media scrapers) that are bundled with Kodi. Those work, but if you check for updates, they don’t get updated. I know that because I’m the primary maintainer for the new TMDb TV Shows scraper (which is in Python and the new default TV show scraper), and I noticed that my OSMC setup didn’t have the most current version of the scraper. The only way I could get it to update is to go to the Kodi add-on repo option, find the scraper add-on there, select it, and then ask for the update (which it did).

I mention this mainly because there were a couple of bugs in the scraper as shipped with Kodi 19 that got resolved later and pushed to the repo. When 19.1 ships from Team Kodi, it should include the most current versions of the default scrapers, but for now if you’re on this test build of OSMC, you might need to manually update the TMDb TV show scraper if you are having issues with TV show scrapes.

And just to make this super complicated, if you were using the old XML TV show scraper (called The Movie Database), then you are still using it in Matrix. That XML scraper is depreciated but still included. It will likely be removed in Kodi 20.

I’ve run into a buffering/stuttering issue:

Issue: Buffering/stutter with high bitrate x264 4k SDR files
When it occurs: When playing the files
Device: Vero 4k+
Peripherals: Vero remote only
Network: File streamed via gigabit ethernet from Synology NAS using SMB.
- Same files streamed to NUC7i5 / NUC8i5 running LE10 Beta, connected to same port and cable play without issue.

If file is copied to Vero 4k then played, no buffering/stutter is observed.

Debug log: https://paste.osmc.tv/begufodeze

MediaInfo: https://paste.osmc.tv/umuwoqivet.tex

Let me know if I can provide any additional info.

Thx!

This is a bit of a long shot but your ethernet is connecting with flow control turned on, which can sometimes cause problems.

If ethtool isn’t already installed, you’ll need to install it, then run:

sudo ethtool -A eth0 rx off tx off

If that helps, you can add the command to /etc/rc.local (without sudo) or, if possible, disable it on your switch/router.

With this test build is it possible to have the Vero 4K+ tonemap HDR content even on a HDR supported display? I have an older Sony HDR tv that does not display HDR very well and i much prefer having it tonemapped to SDR. I am currently using MPC-BE with madVR on windows for this but i would strongly prefer using the Vero.

dillthedog Thanks for the advice, I’ll try it and report back.
