One more question. Is there a command I can run on the vero if I ssh into it for the info? Otherwise I’m not sure what exactly to do to get that info. I don’t think it’s in the menus of the projector and I’ve never ssh into the JVC
Sorry for assuming too much prior knowledge. ssh into Vero and run that command. Cut and paste the output in here. IIRC if using Putty you just select the text with a mouse and it copies it to the clipboard. Then you can Ctrl-V to paste it here.

Hi @sam_nazarko,
somehow I always thougth this was an OSMC feature rather than a Kodi feature…
But anyways the behavior I’m seeing seems to confirm that it has been deprecated.
I managed to change my hyperion service to “type=idle” which fires it up perfectly now.
A big thank you as always for your ongoing support! Count me in for any upcoming Vero successor
have a nice weekend

Could the addon inputstream.ffmpegdirect and service.iptv.manager be added please? my PVR client addon needs it but its not available.
Here you go…

I finally got a debug log with the myOSMC not starting. The log is well over a day’s worth of stuff, so it’s kind of huge, and unfortunately I don’t see anything all that enlightening in it.Near the very bottom is a line that just says:
service.osmc.settings[script_entry] : My OSMC failed to open
But for completeness, here’s the log. I would have used the log uploader, but I couldn’t get myOSMC to launch. '-)
So following on from the issues I had with updating from Leia and getting addon errors for un-named addons that couldn’t be updated and the log being unhelpful, I decided to scrub the Vero4 and boot the Matrix image linked in the first post.
When I come to install addons, I am seeing that I get permissions errors. A skin patcher for example wants to write to /usr/share/kodi/addons/skin.estuary/xml and it can’t. Now in WinSCP I see that this directory has root as the owner and group so do I need to change that to the OSMC user? Should I just add OSMC to the root group?

I connected the Epson directly to the Vero (without my Denon between them).
Hope this helps!
Thanks so much for looking into this and making this maybe happenig. I’m not keen about it to sell my projector since this is a laser projector with an excellent picture quality.
Honestly, nothing should ever be changing stuff in that directory. If you want a modded version of Estuary, the skin should be a separate add-on with it’s own ID that is installed like other add-ons. Then it gets installed in ~/.kodi/addons where there won’t be any permissions issues.
My feeling (but without a deeper understanding of OSMC) is that adding the OSMC user to the root group would be a Really Bad Idea. That would likely give every add-on complete access to the entire system. You’d have to have 100% complete and utter trust in every single line of code in every add-on in that case. I’ve written some add-ons, and even I wouldn’t trust my code that far.
Absolutely correct
Generally also correct but unfortunately due to the sudo concept of OSMC this is currently already the case just that every access would be recorded in the log file (which a bad addon could clean afterwards).
It’s an official Kodi Weather Skin with instructions to write a file to that folder.
Any addon I try and install (not an official Kodi one) I get an error on trying to install it. I NEVER saw this previously. Never saw it with Leia and when I did the Matrix upgrade it didn’t do it then either so far as I know.
So My question is do I need to change the ownership to the OSMC user instead of root. Like I said I didn’t previously have an issue.
I tried to install a bitchute addon and it won’t install because of this issue but I could install it before I reset the vero and I can install it on my Chromecast with Google TV Kodi with no problem so something seems screwey with permissions OOTB with the Vero Image.
(I did add the user to the root group BTW but it only fixed it when I changed ownership of the directory to OSMC)
Gary, would it be possible for you to connect the Vero direct to your JVC and run that command again? I’m looking for the capabilities of the PJ without Denons or Oppos in the chain.
The issue is passwordless sudo. This was discussed way back in 2016. (I don’t necessarily agree with all the reasoning.)
sure

Hi. Just want to check if I’m the only one experiencing these 2 problems:
- Skipping forward & back takes a long time. Buffers a lot. Not chapter skips.
- Have micro stutters at a regular interval.
This is media played via NFS using autofs.
Have recheck that Network is still working well with iperf3?
OK, thanks, and that’s interesting. Your PJ claims to support HDR10. Was there a firmware upgrade to achieve this, as the version 0 manual doesn’t mention it?
So I’m wondering why you find it necessary to use the Oppo to convert to SDR.
It does support an HDR signal but when it recognizes the signal it locks in the picture. You can’t adjust anything. The picture is dark. The work around is to convert the HDR to SDR, use bt2020 and then tone map. JVC added curves for the models going forward in the following years. I wasn’t ambitious enough to hack my model to load curves. It seemed a bit too involved with a warning if you messed it up you could brick the projector. The Oppo was a good compromise for me but they never finished the job.
Got it. Amazing how a huge company selling devices for kilobucks can’t be bothered to get things right then expect users to fix it with DIY.
