We got different builds, the C (2015) version got 4 full bandwidth ports unlike all newer builds, except for the F (2018) version, that one is 4 full bandwidth again it seems.
Thanks for that. I can see the difference between vero through HDMI and DLNA on my entry-level Panny but only as the light fades away in that scene and I have to look hard. I can’t promise we can do as well as the big Japanese and Korean corporations, but we’ll try.
The Revenant looks the same played from my Vero 4K as it does played from the Plex app on my LG C7. I see the same gradient effect during that particular scene as it fades out. I can even see it on my Macbook Pro display.
I didn’t even know Plex on my LG C7 could directly play this kind of content and it seems like there have been updates to the app since I last used it. To be honest I can no longer remember why past-me needed the Vero 4K.
Yep, it’s not the Vero that has issues here. It’s the TV.
However, the reason you got the Vero is because the TV is limited to wired 100Mbit - which has issues at times when streaming locally over Ethernet.
Secondly, there are problems with UHD remux playback on the C7 OLED directly (either via its own app, the Plex App, or XPlay). I can’t speak for the 8-series, but the 7 series have a LOT of issues with macro blocking. If you have the The Lego Batman movie in UHD, it’s about unwatchable at times during the movie. The list of movies is huge, and is a major part of why I got a Vero. Also, no lossless Atmos/DTS-HD MA via the TV.
LG haven’t seemed to have noticed these deficiencies. I have the new LG HU80KA 4K UHD projector which has built-in apps etc, too, - and it has the same problems as the C7. I was surprised to see LG hadn’t fixed them yet. I can give you time-stamps if you need, of where the macroblocking errors occur.
Bottom line is the TV itself is a poor media player.
Thanks for clearing that up. Often what happens is I research something, I reach a conclusion, I remember the conclusion but not the reasoning behind it.
I hear you. I’m in the exact same way. It happens to me with restaurants (less often), computer hardware/software, movies, people etc. I engage in whatever activity it is, and then go - so THAT’S why I don’t spend time with him/her, THAT’S why I didn’t like that video game etc etc.
I need to keep a list of why I bought something/didn’t buy something, because sometimes it’s mega annoying when I can’t remember!
My setup is Vero 4K+ -> Denon S720W -> Vizio P75(2016). I seem to have no problem with HDR (TV switches to HDR10 when frame rate switching is enabled, and it’s definitely 10-bit—Apple’s Aerial videos look identical to the Apple TV 4K with DV disabled [forced 8-bit output on my Shield just to make sure and the banding is awful, as expected]). HDR autoswitch seems to do nothing. This kernel in the top post also didn’t appear to do anything, except it’s causing a problem with some low res SDR HEVC videos in my library (the videos start to play, then the screen goes black and my TV says “no signal”). I reverted according to the instructions and the problem went away. I’m not complaining, but… why is everything magically working for me when lots of other people seem to have issues? What does “HDR Autoswitching” actually do? I haven’t had HDR issues with LibreELEC on other AMLogic devices either (Khadas VIM S905X and MINIX U9-H S912).
HDR autoswitching was made optional in case it caused issues for people. With the October update it has been removed and most people seem to have a good experience. Please can you update and let us know if you have any issues with the October release.
