The OSMC Wiki is Useless

I know you said “in other ways”, but I followed the link, and I see you want donations, coders, socialisers, translators, and mirrors, but no mention of documenters! To be blunt, I am finding it difficult to believe that you consider the documentation as important as I do, and that OSMC is being developed without thought as to what the impact may be on documentation. Nevertheless I have started to assemble some suggestions for improvements to existing entries and for additional entries, and hope to let you have these within a week.

Why will you only suggest changes/edits if you feel so strongly about it’s importance? You can make changes to the wiki and issue pull requests yourself https://github.com/samnazarko/osmc/tree/master/wiki

@ActionA - I strongly believe that the documentation needs to be viewed as a coherent whole, and needs to be closely co-ordinated with the software development. If I were to start suggesting changes to individual pages of the wiki:

  1. Each would be seen, and tend to be judged, in isolation whereas some changes need to be seen as a group
  2. I don’t want to waste my time fine tuning words and looking up internet links etc if the broad concepts behind my suggestions are not accepted.
  3. In some cases I will probably be putting forward alternatives
  4. Software changes currently in the pipeline may invalidate at least the details of my suggestions

and perhaps most importantly I am not familiar with github and how to express the rationale behind any changes I propose.

Thanks for your list of excuses on why you can’t contribute to the documentation that you feel so strongly about…

@ActionA - I did not say I was not going to contribute - what I said was that in the first instance I was not going to do it via GitHub amendments. I do not rule out doing it that way once I feel I am on the same wavelength as the OSMC team, and the basic concepts are resolved in a way that makes individual changes more meaningful in isolation.

If that’s how the OSMC team view my offer to generate suggestions & comments in a different form, I won’t bother.

Thread locked. Either do something about it or stop complaining. Since you posted, 4 people have made direct contributions to the wiki. Obviously they saw a need to improve it and did something about it, rather than making a series of posts about how it needed improving, but that they were too busy to do so.
