TP-LINK TL-WDN3200 chipset RT5572

Just info for those attempting to get this adapter to work in US freq range. I used:
sudo apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree crda
sudo iw reg set US
sudo shutdown -r now

It finds 5 ghz but to access have to use no encryption. Signal strength is not as strong as when adapter is use on laptop Linux pc, suspect needs optimization. Looking if anyone would have suggestion on how to get encryption feature to work.

dmesg will probably show you some stuff here. BTW: most WiFi drivers determine the regulatory domain by listening for other, nearby networks and seeing what channels they are operating on. Do you have any wireless network access points near you? If so, and the driver is good, this should be resolved automatically.

I not sure about the sudo iw reg set US, if needed, just had followed guide on raspberry pi site. Have any suggestions on wpa problem? I was planning to compare linux mint config file and osmc once had wpa. I will take a look at dmesg file, but had a router freeze up problem with switching around encryption. This adapter looks to work good with 5 ghz range when operational. One of those things that been lacking.

dmesg will probably give us some insight.

Do this:

  • Reboot

  • Try initiate a connection with encryption

  • Plug in Ethernet cable

  • Go to My OSMC -> Log Uploader -> upload dmesg and put pastebin link here.

Will do nothing, as rt2870.bin is already included in OSMC. I have checked and we are also shipping the latest version, so you shouldn’t have any trouble there. In fact, if it had overwritten any files it would have caused an error: only one Debian package can own the same file at any one time.

I can’t see any connection issues with your log I’m afraid.

Prior to the below was not seeing 5 ghz but cryto login resumed if helps

Just to comfirm once again tried without any encryption and connected just fine, if that helps

Using ssh with wire and usb adapter installed. I was able to get wdn3200 chipset RT5572, to work at 5 ghz with encryption using this procedure. Hope it can be added into osmc.
