Trouble with some Video files

Hi

Wonder if someone can help me, I have been having trouble to get some 4k/HDR files to play reliably through my vero 4k+, I suspect I have just got some wrong settings somewhere. But if someone can point me in the right direction I would be greatful.

The issues I seem to get are:
a judder every 7 seconds or so as if a frame is missing ( only really noticeable when camera is panning) - occurs with most 4k files.
Audio cuts out and stutters at about 55-60 seconds on some high bit rate files,
and 60fps files being displayed on my TV at 24fps.
And sometimes a file will send my TV into an unsupported resolution mode, when the file finishes playing the GUI will come back but won’t play any other file until a reboot occurs (note that the same files that cause the TV to go into this mode sometimes play just fine, so is difficult to reproduce)
Not all files produce all these issues, however most include at least some of these issues. I don’t think it’s my TV this time as I have tried the same files on a USB stick directly into my TV with none of these issues.

I have included below some information that may be helpful - all files are played through an external USB hard drive connected directly to the Vero4k+ rather than over network

File 1:
Plays at 24fps
audio stutters several times throughout the file 40 seconds 90 seconds 2min 20seconds etc

log for 3rd file https://paste.osmc.tv/uwevonewuz

Sorry I know its a bit wordy just tried to include as many examples as I could. These issues seem to occur randomly on other files too, but seem to be worse on the higher bit rate files, although almost all the 4k content seems to have a video judder every 7 seconds or so.

Any more info needed please let me know

Thanks

Do you have Settings -> Player -> Videos -> Adjust Display Refresh Rate set to “Always” or “On Start/Stop”?

I have tried both and neither seem to make better/worse but in the examples I have just posted it was set to on start/stop

On the same settings page, Sync Playback to display must be off.

If it is off, we need to see some logs.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed that you had posted logs!

Hi James

We have some HDR improvements we want to make available in the next update but we need more feedback.

If you’re familiar with ssh and happy to try let us know.

It makes sense for you to test what’s going to be part of OSMC shortly

Sam

Hi sam yes happy to test no problem

I did see some of the other HDR threads but thought the problems looked different, do you think it could be caused by the same issues?

No problem, I had a feeling you might need them.

Out of interest, in simple terms what does “sync playback to display” mean and in what circumstances would you use this setting?

It forces Kodi to attempt to change the refresh rate of the video playing to match the refresh rate of the monitor. I don’t see an real use in that option with modern monitors/TVs.

Hi Sam

Don’t know whether my last message got missed or you’re just busy at the moment, but yes I’m familiar with SSH and happy to test. Just let me know what I’ve got to do

Thanks

Thanks for this, Ive tried this out tonight and at quick glance it looks like this solves all the issues I previously had. I will give it a thorough test over the next few days but as far as I can see at the moment, all looks good thanks

If I’m not mistaken, it’s main purpose is for laptops and other devices where you can’t adjust the screen refresh rate…MacBook Pros is one example.
It does help reduce juddering when watching 24fps content on a 60Hz screen.
