Whenever I launch the Yatse app on my phone or tablet and click on “turn on” nothing happens on the pi. I have to manually unplug and replug the pi in order to boot it. Is there something to setup in the parameters here?

The Raspberry Pi does not have software controlled power off or wake on lan like a PC.
So if you shut down your Pi it will not boot again until you unplug the power and reconnect it.

The pi really uses so little electricity that there is really no reason to turn it off.
