TV auto-switches to OSMC when turned on

After I updated to Krypton on my PI, when ever the TV is turned on, it auto-switches the source to OSMC.
I tried looking in the CEC options, but there I can only find an option for when the TV is turned off.

The TV only has the option to turn CEC on and off, and then something about turning on and off devices when the TV is turned on and off.

I don’t know if it is a TV CEC problem or a OSMC CEC problem. But since the problem appeared right after i updated, I think it must have something to do with OSMC.

Is there somekind of ‘awake’ signal that the PI sends to the TV that could be disabled?

I think I have the same issue as you:

https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/hdmi-cec-issue-lg-tv-rpi3-osmc-2017-02

Looks to be the exact same problem

Since updating from 2017-01 to 2017-02 I have had a strange change in CEC behaviour.

Every time I turn my TV on, after about 5 seconds, the TV switches to the RPi input (without any input or action on the OSMC system).

It didn’t do this prior to the 2017-02 update.

I’ve looked through the CEC settings in Kodi and I can’t see a setting that would explain this behaviour.

The attached debug log includes the following:

  1. Boot OSMC while TV is on and switched to the RPi HDMI input
  2. Switch TV input to ‘normal’ (broadcast) TV
  3. Turn TV off
  4. Turn TV on, wait for it to auto switch to Pi HDMI input
  5. Turn debug off and upload logs

Any ideas what I might need to change to get this back to the previous behaviour? I don’t want the TV to switch to the OSMC input every time the TV gets turned on.

I never turn off my Pi, it’s left running 24/7.

Generally with CEC problems first step always is to disconnect both devices from power (physical unplug) for 1 minute and then reconenct.
Also for your specific issue check in the CEC settings if anything might have been reset during the upgrade.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I’ve done as you suggested (complete shutdown and power off at the wall for 60 secs, then bring everything back online).

Unfortunately the behaviour hasn’t changed. I still get the TV switching to the OSMC input 5 secs after switching on.

I’ve looked through the Kodi CEC settings and I can’t see anything that has changed, or that might cause this behaviour. I haven’t touched the default CEC settings for as long as I can remember, I’m pretty sure they are all just the defaults.

Try to disable KODI CEC if that makes a change

Disabling the CEC adapter within Kodi settings makes the issue go away, so it definitely appears related to something in the Kodi/OSMC CEC implementation.

I’m happy to test anything else that might help troubleshoot this.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try next? This behaviour has been introduced by the latest update, so I’m confident there must be a way to revert back to how it used to be…

Well I have 2 LG TV’s with each a Pi connected and can not reproduce this behaviour. So not much I can suggest.

If you have customised at all, would you mind posting your CEC settings (Kodi, and config.txt)?

If you haven’t customised at all and run stock, I am stumped.

Not aware of CEC changes I did, but here you go:

osmc@osmc:~$ cat /boot/config.txt
gpu_mem_1024=256
hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1
disable_overscan=1
start_x=1
disable_splash=1

All my CEC settings are the same as yours.

I’ve seen a few old posts online with similar issues where hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1 is the suggested fix (I already have that, and have always had it).

The WAF is decreasing sharply and I’m out of ideas… thanks for your help anyway.

It looks like there are at least two of us:

@Soren_Sogaard - I assume you have an LG TV?

I’ll see if I can capture some logs with cec-client and post them here…

Perhaps a mod could merge these two topics?

I do have an LG

CEC behaviour is not changed between 2017.02-1 and 2017.02-2

Logs?

Logs are in my OP. I have also captured a CEC log and will post that shortly.

This is an issue that started with 2017.02-1.

Yeah, already made Sam aware of that. But need to have the one with component specific logging enabled. If you post that I guess Sam will check it out as soon as he has time.

Would you mind pointing me to how I do that?

I have captured a separate log usingcec-client.

This log captures the following:

  1. Start logging with cec-client, TV on standby
  2. Wait 5 seconds then turn on TV
  3. TV turns on (normal broadcast antenna input), after 5 seconds auto-switches to RPi HDMI input
  4. Wait 5 seconds, then stop logging.

There is no user input or command given at any time when capturing this log other than using the TV remote to turn the TV on from standby.
