Ie, see attached picture. Never understood what they are for, but they seem to correlate with the beginning and end of commercials. If so, is there a handy key to skip the commercial?
They are chapter markers that you can jump to with the chapter back/fwd

Just to expand on this a bit, on a remote you might have buttons tied to chapter navigation but on all remotes/keyboards the standard mapping for the direction keys are such that during playback left/right direction arrows do small skip steps and up/down will do large skip steps except if their is chapter markers in which case they navigate those.
