UI sounds don't work; video audio works perfectly

I primarily use the Embuary skin (Matrix, Omega, and 2K) but have dabbled in others. In all cases, the UI sounds don’t work probably on my Vero V. The problem is not a generic “audio doesn’t work” since the video audio works perfectly – it’s just the UI beeps, boops, and clicks.

Every now and then, I’ll hear a distorted sound which suggests that it’s trying to play the sound but cannot. Most of the time, there’s either no sound at all or I can hear a faint tch tch from my speakers.

Any thoughts on how to approach fixing this?

In settings>system>audio have you tried playing with the keep audio device alive and send low volume noise settings?

Thank you! That worked a treat. I ended up keeping it alive “Always”, but I’m not sure the ramifications of that so I may experiment with different time frames. I’m also going to check on my original Kodi instance to see what that defaults to.
