Understanding media file types in OSMC

A very brief question from a total newbie. I have installed OSMC onto a Pi3B today and started trying to access video files over my network at home. I was able to navigate to the USB HDD and see the containing folders, but could not see the files themselves. I did not add any locations (as I am going VERY softly here).

My question - when I DO add those locations, will the titles appear in my Videos?

Trying to get this right with out doing too much damage(!)

yes if you set movies and then scrape they appear on the meny
