Unionfs for local + nfs storage?

Hello,
since long time I have my Kodi device (currently a vero4k+ with osmc) mounting its storage via NFS from the NAS.
As I’d like to be able to turn off the NAS for most of the day, I was wondering if it would be possible to instead plug via USB an SSD to the vero4k+ and keep there all the ‘current’ video material, and use the NAS for archiving older stuff no longer current (so I’ll move periodically stuff from the SSD to the NAS).

That arrangement would likely be possible if I use separate directories for the two separate sources, but… would it be possible to merge them together using unionfs/mergerfs, so that Kodi sees only a single source and the user doesn’t need to care where physically a certain file resides?

Thanks

Yes - but you’ll want to power the SSD externally.

Thanks Sam.
Hmm, that’s a good point. What’s the max power that vero4k+ USB ports can supply?

They are USB 2.0 ports so the spec is 500 mA.
