USB 5.1 for Vero 4K - not able to see/use

Hi,

I purchased a USB sound card (USB Optical Sound Card 5.1 Channels SPDIF DOLBY DAC Audio for PC Laptop | eBay) based on the Cmedia 6206 chipset to allow me to pipe out a 5.1 audio stream over SPDIF to a legacy speaker setup (Logitech Z-5500).

I had hoped to see this card as an option under Kodi → Settings → Audio, but it’s not there to select.
Any ideas on how I can get the up and running?

Thanks,

Nick

Why not just use the SPDIF port that is built into the Vero?

The SPDIF port on the Vero only outputs 2 channels based on what I’ve read/observed. I would be happy to be proven wrong on this though

You are mistaken. SPDIF supports only two PCM channels regardless of device. To get multichannel you have to use AC3 or DTS. You simply need to set your audio settings such (switch to expert view so you can see everything) that channels is 2.0, passthrough is enabled and set to that output device and enable AC3, transcoding, and DTS if your AVR supports it. Do not enable the HD audio options as they are not supported with this connection and I assume your hardware. You can find more information in the following thread.

Thanks, I’ll go have a play and report back :+1:

I tried the settings noted, however the decoder still reports the stream as pro logic instead of AC3. The same movie played through Kodi on an xb1 via the same optical cable plays back as AC3. Thoughts?

Mediainfo of the file and logs.

It would be good if we could find out more about the file you are having issues playing.

Please let us know the mediainfo of the file which you either can create:

  1. By uploading the file to https://videosam.pl/
  2. Login to OSMC via ssh and Install mediainfo sudo apt-get install mediainfo and then run mediainfo <File>

Afterwards share the info here using </> format button.

Thx for your help.

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

When you have provided the info @fzinken has asked for, I would be interested to find out why you had difficulty with the Cm 6206 device. It should work. So if you have a moment, as a separate exercise can you plug the device in and post logs for that. One possibility is it’s drawing too much power from the USB port.

I finally had a chance to revisit this and having reapplied the right settings, I’m able to get DD and DTS on my old speaker setup :+1:
Due to this great news and awesome support from this forum, I’ll b ordering a second Vero 4+ later on today. Thanks all
