USB HDD not visible in UI but works fine at the same time on Samba

Hello All,
My USB HDD is not visible in UI but works fine at the same time on Samba.
Even in UI, I can see the HDD getting mounted when the system boots but gets automatically unmounted and I get a popup to notify the same.

When that happens, df -h still shows the HDD is mounted and I can list the files via SSH and the drive is read/write accessible via Samba share.

I have tried unmounting and mounting the HDD to see it changes anything in UI but no luck.

I am using Raspberry Pi2 and its a WD USB powered HHD.

Please help.

Most probably, there is insufficient power, and that is why it drops out from time to time.
Recommend you power it via a USB hub which has its own power supply.

Hello Derek @dandnsmith,
Thanks for the reply.

I would doubt power supply but I am able to do everything else fine without any problem albeit the UI is.

At times, I am even able to play media without any issues via UI on my TV using HDMI but some times it drops intermittently which is driving me crazy.

Is there any way to make it visible in UI as unmouting/mounting doesn’t make any difference.

Would you be able to suggest any commands or procedures to narrow down to the source of the problem.

Many thanks.

What you say doesn’t make sense - if the drive is mounted it will be visible in Kodi in Video->Files, if it is not mounted it will not be visible.

Don’t be so quick to rule out power as an issue without first testing it. It’s a very common cause of problems on the Pi, including problems with external drives not working properly. The fact that you are saying it “drops intermittently” suggests a power related issue.

Please enable debug mode in Kodi, reboot then use the Pi until the problem appears, then use the My OSMC log uploader to upload full debug logs. Without logs we can only guess what could be wrong.

I have been using a External powered USB Hub since then I have not seen any further problems. It doesn’t even cause any problem now if i attach multiple USB devices (HDD / Pen drive).

Many thanks for all the help.
