Use usb wifi dongle instead of internal wifi on Vero 4K

I have a usb wifi dongle that I want to use instead of the internal wifi. The reason is that I want to try wifi with a high gain antenna. I have one Vero 4K that the internal wifi works pretty well with. But another Vero, in another room, has about, on average, a 30% less bit rate.

How do I get the new dongle to work?

TIA

You may need to compile the driver for the dongle from source. Without knowing the make and model, it’s hard to speculate.

The one I have now is Netgear A6150 / AC1200. I am still looking for something with external antenna. Any recommendations before I buy one greatly appreciated.

Depending on what chipset that has, you may need to compile the appropriate driver from source. You’d need to do this with each OSMC kernel update.

Sam

This is the chipset: Realtek RTL8812BU.

Is there a dongle that would work as is on the Vero4K?

thx

We don’t have an extensive list of dongles supported out of the box, unfortunately.

One last question (about this): Does the latest OSMC support this chipset (or will it in the future)?

thx

I don’t believe so. Most Realtek chips reply on downstream drivers.
