Vero 2 audio

I’m having trouble with the audio output of the vero 2.

My vero is hooked up directly to my hard drive and linked to my av reciever via hdmi.

My audio set up in OSMC is set as follows
Out put configuration - optimised
Maintain original volume on down-mix - checked
Re sample - high
Support 8 channel dots-hd audio - checked

When I play my mkv, with a 7.1 dts-hd track, the amp shows the input as being 2.0 channels PCM only… Is this correct?

This isn’t just dts-hd either it’s any format (dts Dolby digital etc) they are all showing as 2.0

I figured the vero would pass the 8 channels as separate parts.

Am I missing something?

Thanks
J

Have you enabled passthrough?

I have tried pass through and, when I do, the amp info displays the dts 5.1 and the bitrate etc.

Then when I turn the pass through back off it goes back to 2.0 pm and doesn’t show any bitrate info

It also sounds noticeable worse.

You are using an AVR. Why wouldn’t you use passthrough??

I haven’t set it to passthrough as I wanted the 7.1 channel HD audio. I was under the impression DTS-HD could only be sent via multi channel pcm.

When I passthrough the audio it only receives the 5.1

The “support 8 channel DTD-HD audio decoding” option is checked so I wanted the 8 channel PCM to be sent to the AVR

If you enable pass-through now, the core will be bitstreamed over HDMI. If you don’t, then a 2.0 PCM stream will be sent, which is why it sounds noticeably worse.

In a near update, we will enable HD audio passthrough, which means that decoding and sending each channel as PCM will not be necessary nor relevant.

I see,

I thought the PCM was 8 channel.

I’ll leave it at pass-through until the update then.

Any word on timeline for this? Once this is working, I’m going to drop this Intel NUC I’m currently using (which has been VERY problematic) like a brick and buy a Vero2.

Hi,

I was wondering if there was any news on DTS-HD Passthrough… It was said that it would happen in a near update, however that was nearly three months ago now…

It would be good to know if it is going to happen and a rough timeline… As it is I have no problems with the Vero, it works fine, however for just playing my MKV rips, apart from a bit of a snappier GUI, it has no real benfit over my original RPI. I’m happy to have supported the OSMC project with the purchase, just wish it could have that little bit extra spec to make it really shine.

My Brother is looking at getting a Vero, but is holding off until HD Audio is up and running.

Hi

It’s still being worked on. I don’t want to provide a timeline because anytime I do and something is slightly later than expected, Discourse’s quote feature is used

There should be a fair few benefits (for ex. H265 support).

Cheers Sam,

I can understand that… good to know it’s being worked on.

Sam,

I caved and bought the Vero 2 when you had the 10% off coupon – as I have full faith that you will deliver HD audio since you have an excellent track record (I’ve been following your work since Crystalbuntu and was using an ATV1 with a CrystalHD card before you even had offered Crystalbuntu). I’m still getting things configured and setup, but the Vero 2 seems like a great little HTPC so far!!

David

That’s great David

Let me know if you run in to any stumbling blocks and I’ll give you a hand

Hi Sam! I see you just released the Vero 4k, which is awesome, and I’m very happy to see it supports HD audio out of the box. Any chance that this is coming for those of us that bought the Vero 2? I appreciate it!
