Is there any fix yet for this issue? I tried Kodi 17 official and beta’s and 18 to no avail.
Running Vero4k+ through Denon AVR to Samsung non 4K non HDR 1080p HD tv. Only thing that fixes it for now is turning on “Forge RGB output”, but the colors are awfull that way…
Same here, 4K HDR content is way too dark in dark scenes/dark parts of the picture. Most detail in the dark areas is completely lost. The overall brightness is ok – I think there needs to be some gamma adjustments or tone mapping, as brightness/contrast settings change the whole picture, not just the dark parts.
But I’ll wait with reporting more on those issues until 4k playback has been resolved.
Why is this an issue on the Vero 4K+ and not on any other Kodi bassed player that I have had? Always same tv and same AVR, only the Vero is the changed factor…
A regular Windows PC with Kodi plays the content fine. I also tried my old trusty Intel NUC with Openelec (Kodi 17), and although it doesn’t have the power to play HEVC 10bit HDR 4K files without buffering like hell, it does display the colors perfectly…
Well unless “old” refers to a couple of months the Intel NUC would not be able to output HDR signal.
As " 7th Gen Intel Core processor platforms (formerly codenamed Kaby Lake) is the first Intel integrated graphics platform to support HDR." your NUC must be quite youn.
Well then I dont get your point. I have a non hdr - non 4k setup (TV and AVR). And colors are fine on older devices but not on the Vero4K+… So what does that have to do with performance and supporting HDR?
Do you mean that the Vero4K+ is outputting HDR and that my setup doen not know what to do with it?
Let’s be clear that I have the issue also with non 4K/HDR content. All the images are too dark…
Unlike you I have the opposite, on my Windows 10 Asrock Beebox (a NUC like device) HDR content is washed out and dark unless I enable HDR in Windows display settings but then all other content other than HDR has the same problems and this is with it attached to a 4K HDR TV.
On my non HDR 1080P tv my 2nd gen Fire TV box plays all the 4K HDR content I have via Kodi ok but again it is washed out and dark, however my Vero 4K connected to the same TV plays the 4K HDR material as well as it does 1080P/720P non HDR stuff.
Perhaps its your AVR causing the issue? On my setup the Vero is connected directly to my TV.
