Vero will only be able to feed 5.1 to the Sony. What the Sony does with that I don’t know but suspect it will play the two ‘rear’ channels to both your side and rear speaker pairs at a reduced volume.
So your steps would be implemented on the Vero directly rather than the AV setup?
yes.
Understood your situation in that way that you plan to feed the TV with a HDMI cable from the Vero4k and an additional SPDIF cable from the Vero4k connects to the Sony AVR.
The colleague @Chillbo has created some nice text modules for such configurations:
For SPDIF usage on the Vero4k, please, check your audio settings at Settings->System->Audio and set them to the following:
Audio device: PCM
Number of channels: 2.0 (S/PDIF only supports 2 channel LPCM)
Output configuration: Best match
Passthrough: enabled
DTS/AC3 passthrough: enabled
DTS-HD/TrueHD/E-AC3 passthrough: disabled
AC3 transcoding: enabled
And keep in mind to disable “sync playback to display” under settings->player->videos for passthrough to work.
If you want your TV’s refresh rate and resolution to adjust according to the source’s frame rate and resolution, also set "Adjust display refresh rate” to Always or to On start/stop under settings->player->videos.
Thank-you for the extensive response. What are ‘text modules’ ? Is this like a template you can import to configure the Vero? Thanks
No, they’re used as prepared posts here in this forum. Have fun with your Vero.
Early days yet, but it looks like it has worked and I have got something like 5.1. Many thanks to all who contributed - I’m very impressed with the knowledge of this community. I wanted something that could play 4k files with subtitles and surround sound, and I am approaching the finish line if I have not passed it already.
I did notice that the voice was a bit out of synch on a couple of files I tried. Is there something I can do for that in general, or do I just adjust the audio on each file I play?
If it varies by file, you can only adjust it by the context menu. I believe kodi remembers the setting for each file played.
Are these old AVI / XVid files? They are usually the most problematic. With some logs I can certainly see if there’s anything we can do for these files.
