Vero 4K+ CEC/ARC lockout issue & Lindy adaptor

My setup: LGOLED55E8PLA ARC socket (marked HDMI 2) goes to a Marantz NR1711 HDMI (marked ARC) socket. My Vero4K+ also goes into a Marantz HDMI socket (marked Media Player). I then link my external 2.5in HDD to Vero via USB. I only ever use Vero in library mode - I prefer to make my own artwork. This has all worked well for months. As per many other threads I started having regular CEC/ARC lockout issues of late when trying to use TV remote to switch between TV and Vero. Rebooting or pulling out the Vero HDMI cable fixes this temporariiy. I cant work out what optimum Vero peripherals settings might be for this issue. But … I want to see if using “Lindy HDMI CEC Less Adapter, Female to Male” helps. Elderly and confused question: where do I slot the Lindy? Do I put it into the Vero or into the TV? Can I then use standard HDMI cables to run from the adaptor? Have others had success with Lindy? Love using my Vero 4K+ and want to get this sorted.

Put it between the Vero and you AVR.
DO NOT put it between your TV and your AVR, that would likely block the [A]udio [R]eturn [C]hannel from working.
You can use a CEC adaptor with any HDMI cable, it shouldn’t matter.
That being said, you could also just modify a HDMI cable as well to disable CEC if you have extra HDMI cables laying around.
That’s what I did.

I just pushed the pin down really hard so it has no spring to it any more and doesn’t make contact.
Works great!

I’m no engineer but I think in certain configurations the devices are trying to use that pin to ground and it messes up the CEC.
CEC is just super annoying anyway; it seams that every manufacturer has a different way they want to implement it.

If you need more details, ask away and I’ll help however I can.

In my industry HDMI grounding is a common enough issue.
It will kill higher frequencies needed to deliver HD signals.
Clients will have an issue with an electrical outlet not grounding and a device in their configuration will try to use the HDMI to ground to the display.
When this happens it usually blocks the ability to display 1080p or higher.
You can do 480p and 720p but if you switch to 1080p the screen will loose signal as if you had unplugged the cable.
If we move the power source to an outlet without grounding issues then everything works fine and you can do 1080p and 2160p.
So HDMI grounding causing CEC issues makes sense to me but it is very hard to narrow it down to that.
Lots of trial and error… a lengthy process of elimination.
I don’t bother.
I move the power cord to an extension cable and run to an outlet that should be on a completely different breaker.
Issue proven, now get an electrician out here to fix your outlet because that’s not what I do…

Many thanks, Kontrarian.

So - SimpLink is enabled on LG E8 (without this ARC wont work), Lindy is inserted into Vero 4K+, HDMI cable goes from Lindy into Marantz AV ‘Media Player’ socket … what then will I notice happening with the LG remote and/or the Vero remote? What functions will stop?

LG remote will not be able to control the Vero anymore.
no change to Vero remote function

When I go to this panel what should I enable or disable if using CEC less adaptor?

Vero settings>system>input>peripherals>CEC adapter

CEC works by having a single wire that runs between all your HDMI devices that they communicate with each over. If any of those devices starts acting up it can mess up the communication for every device. The CEC-less adapters (or modified HDMI cables) simply pass through every connection except the one that CEC uses. When put in line from a problematic device it prevents just that device from talking on that bus, including causing any issues with other devices. As it no longer is able to talk to the CEC bus the related settings on that device become irrelevant.
