Could be a short between the battery contacts. I’d suggest checking that.
FWIW, I had a similar problem (going through a battery about once every ten days). After acquiring a new remote, the batteries are now lasting many months. I imagine it must have been some kind of short circuit problem, but I never figured out exactly what.
