That sounds like a possible short between the battery contacts in the remote. I would check that.
You hold down the home and OK buttons for a few seconds. There should be a light on the front that starts blinking.

if there would a “short” the remote wont work.
No, it will work, but the battery will drain fast. I have seen this when people have used sharp instruments to remove the battery when replacing it.
