just the opposite, I was initially disappointed and considering returning as I thought the device was underpowered.
The issue with the long load times for posters - resolved by reinstalling.
This issue with chapter skipping - hot fixed.
and now that I’m not repeatedly setting up Kodi I don’t notice the remote issue.
That really only leaves two minor quality of life issues:
A reliably way to restart an unresponsive (but not hung) kodi that doesn’t require pulling the power. The Emby addon has a tendency to cause kodi to hang on exit during a database reset (which currently happens with every Emby client and server update), and the default watchdog fails to kill the process. I created a simple service to check kodi with the jsonrpc ping to handle that rare issue. Some way to do that from the remote (or a future remote revision) would be fantastic, even a reset button on a future Vero revision would be an improvement for non tech savvy users.
A nicer music visualization. this one is so low on my radar I haven’t even looked into it. I noticed libreelec has projectM which is close enough to the windows ones. aaaaand I just looked into it and understand the issue
As long as it’s possible to disable update notifications and reinstall previous known good OSMC versions, I think I’ll be happy here.
It should not be doing that. What do the Emby guys say about it?
I get what you mean about being able to reset from the remote but that doesn’t inspire confidence and having a dedicated reboot button (when we currently only have 13 buttons) isn’t a great look…
On embedded (GLES) platforms we are a bit more limited regarding visualisations. Did you come from an Intel platform like a NUC? That will unfortunately have more options in terms of screensavers and visualisations
You can disable updates but I don’t recommend this. You can always downgrade if needed, but we prefer fixing things and moving forwards.
As far as I remember kodi has always had the issue of failing to close due to 3rd party python threads - weather addons used to cause it so often I eventually stopped using them.
I’m mostly thinking in terms of how someone like my mother would use it.
I currently have her on a Win10 PC with a full screen menu that pops up when she presses the power button on the MCE remote, with options to [Restart Kodi/Restart PC/Sleep PC] - easy to do on windows with Winkey+1, not sure how to implement that functionality with linux.

just spit balling here.
I wouldn’t expect it to be a “reset” button, but a power button that offers [Restart/Reset/Power-Off] options wouldn’t look out of place.
Or an OSMC button that opens a separate MyOSMC app - with a power menu. big change/long term I know.

yeah coming from a hdmi2.1 windows HTPC. but that platform is slowly dying for kodi. I am down to only AMD GPUs working correctly with my TV (LG forces PC Mode on every cold boot with Intel and Nvidia) while AMD RDNA3 GPUs and Intel Arc iGPUs crash kodi when deinterlacing and just don’t behave well when changing refresh+hdr.

I will.
again, thinking in terms of how my mother would use the device.
its best if I perform updates manually in the middle of the night, after I have tested them extensively myself.
Any message saying there is an update available is just going to cause phone calls.
