Hi, sorry that I did not double check the log before sending, I hope this should work. thanks!
I mean I tried both passthrough enabled and disabled, the output sound makes no difference - two chanels as always.
To be clear, we should be specific with terms. The issue your stating is that your Vero is outputting LPCM instead of bitstream. The number of channels could be just having your AVR set to stereo mode.
Looking just at the top of your log it is clear that your not following advice and/or have fully understood what the audio setup guide is conveying…
Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver: false
Enable Dolby Digital (AC3) transcoding: false
Audio output device: ALSA:default|Default (AML-AUGESOUND: HDMI, S/PDIF & analogue)
Number of channels: 2.0
Output configuration: Best match
DTS-HD capable receiver: true
DTS capable receiver: false
Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3) capable receiver: true
Allow passthrough: false
You have turned off passthrough which is the core setting that allows bitstream output, You have turned off AC3 and DTS passthrough, which are the two that TOSLINK supports, and have enabled the HD variarts which neither TOSLINK or your AVR supports.
Hi, good morning! Thanks again for your patience and guidance. I think I may have misunderstood the audio settings earlier — I interpreted the highlighted (white) checkbox as “disabled” and the grey state as “enabled”, so it’s very possible that my passthrough and receiver capability settings were effectively reversed during previous tests. I’m now correcting those settings according to the wiki and will test again.
Just to clarify one detail: my amplifier isn’t actually locked to stereo mode. It is always set to AFD (Auto Format Decode), but the signal it receives from Vero consistently shows PCM 2.0, so it appears the bitstream passthrough still wasn’t happening.
I’ll report back after retesting with the corrected settings later today.
Thanks again for your great help.
Yes, please, give feedback. I am still fascinated by the Sony HT-K215, which must date from around the turn of the millennium.
Hi, here comes the good news — the audio passthrough issue now seems to be resolved. After correcting my audio settings and testing again, the AVR is finally receiving the proper signal instead of PCM 2.0.
I also enabled the “Mute HDMI audio output” option on the system setting. I’m not entirely sure whether this contributed to the fix, but I thought it would be helpful to mention in case it provides additional insight.
Once again I really appreciate your professional instructions throughout this process and it is a very pleasant experience to communicate through the forum, now I could finally enjoy my movie party during the coming Chinese New Year!
Wishing you all a happy Chinese New Year (a horse year) and all the best,
James
