Vero V: Unstability/crashes for large/complex video

Hi,

I’m experiencing hard crashes which leaves the screen stuck and slightly flickering and audio repeating on a short loop. I cannot SSH into the Vero V when such a crash occurs, I unplug the device in order to get a hard reboot. I’m working on getting logs, my plan is to fill this post with more info as I discover what’s up with the device. The temperature seems to be steadily increasing, is it possible that it attempts to throttle @ 75C and this causes some sort of crash?

By large/complex video I mean the following:

Nowhere near throttling at this temperature.

Have you tried playing it from local storage?

I’ve not tried playing it from local storage. I can at most play this from external storage connected locally (video too large for local storage and I’m unwilling to resize it), this is streamed over the local network through Wi-Fi. I will try this tomorrow and get back to you.

Also, thank you for the quick response.

Those video specs are easily handled by a Vero so I doubt it has anything to do with it being large or of a high bitrate or anything like that, but your file may be corrupt or something.

Does it only do it on this file or does it do it with other files as well?

If your network isn’t up to the task of handling such high bitrate files you would just experience stuttering and/or buffering; it shouldn’t lock up your device to the point it would require pulling the plug.

For testing purposes you could trim out a section of it. Use mkvtoolnix, maybe. But testing playing it from a directly attached USB stick would still eliminate network conditions as a possible contributing factor - if it’s still problematic in local storage that narrows things down a bit.

Played the video again (streaming over network), and I got quite far before a crash. I did experience some desync of video and audio, but those were fixed by pausing video and playing again.

journalctl didn’t display any interesting (AFAICS) logs up until the crash, some warning such as RTW: WARN cfg80211_rtw_scan (wlan0) : scan abort!! BusyTraffic.

I also read the Kodi logs, and that had some interesting parts spread through the logs:

These all appeared while continuing to play the video. I’m now trying the file out without subtitles, I’ll report if a crash occurs. EDIT: Crash even without subtitles confirmed.

Does it only do it on this file or does it do it with other files as well?

I’ve experienced a crash for a similar file (spec wise). I’ve also just had it not crash, as in: Watched entire file without a crash.
