VERO4k+OLED65C16LA+YAMAHAV677 + DTS :(

So, see my config, for full 4K + HDR i need the VERO directly connected to the TV (LG 65C1),
but this TV does not support DTS(-XXXX) sound, neither does it passthrough though the ARC channel to the Yamaha.
Anyone got a solution ?
(Without upgrading my Yamaha, or resampling all my video’s with DTS(-XXX) soundtracks).

I tried coupling the VERA with the optical out to the amplifier but without success?

Don’t enable DTS passthrough in Settings and it will be decoded and sent as LPCM.

Assuming the Yamaha is a soundbar or AVR, you should go:

Vero → Soundbar → TV

yes thats why i used to do, but can’t do that, because the Yamaha has old HDMI ports, so no HDR support.

You could use a splitter like a Vertex Fury.
Otherwise optical out is the best way.

No full sound ? When playing DTS-MA for instance. While the Yamaha v677 should be able to.

Ok, tried again, and now i can play most of the sound formats either trought VERO->TV->RECEIVER (ARC) or VERO->RECEIVER (optical), only stuck with DTS-MA.
(i’m sure have to reinstalll it first, i could play DTS-MA wiht my old NUC → RECEIVER).

i will make a table of this after xmas.

It’s a big mess, most of my DTS test files (which worked with NUC->RECEIVER (HDMI) before) are just not working, trough optical. The ones that do work through ARC the channels are not right.

Maybe better of investing in a descent NUC (with x265/hevc) playback capability.

This is just too much troubles for playback video.

This is really a dilemma . You own

TV OLED65C16LA which can process 4k +HDR but none of the DTS audio formats and will not passthrough them via eARC (so, it is only good for as video device with no sound caps)
an AVR which is limited to HDMI 1.4 or is not full hdmi 2.0 compliant and by that cannot process HDR video format nor can passthrough it
although AVR and Vero offer an SPDIF otpical interface, this old technology is limited in bandwidth and cannot use the lossless audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio, etc. soundtracks found on most Blu-rays and 4K Blu-rays. Using SPDIF even forbids using multi-channel PCM (only 2 channel PCM allowed), so you have to convert all multi-channel audio to AC3 except DTS maybe E-AC3 is allowed.

If you don’t want to convert down all high-quality losless audio to AC3 there will be no other choice than to invest money. I suggest to invest in an new AVR with HDMI 2.1, HDR and all supported modern audio formats.

Would something like: Denon AVR-X2700H (maybe the DAB version) would be sufficient ?

I’ve got a Samsung QE55Q85R and a YAMAHA RX V467.

For the moment i do not use 4K and keep my VERO 4K+ on my amp… But I’ll surely upgrade it for the YAMAHA RX V6A or V4A. They have hdmi 2.1 (to be future proof) and the HDMI 2.1 bug seems to be fixed by YAMAHA.

Now i just wait for money… T_T

Looks like good value. You could also try connecting Vero->AVR->TV and at the command line:

echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/force-hdr

This works with my old Yamaha. Only up to 4k24Hz of course.

I find that surprising. If after issuing that command you force Vero to re-read the EDID:

echo now | sudo tee /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/attr
then
cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/edid
does it indicate HDR support?

Make sure you have turned off all video processing in the AVR. (ie Video Mode = Direct).

Tried it, HDR support is mentioned in the output, but get no HDR logo with HDR movies.
This evening (amsterdam time) or tomorrow i have the extractor, will post results from that here.
