Vero5 issues

I bought a Vero5 last year to use in my living room since my 4K+ is in my man cave. I really only use these devices for 3-D consumption.

I haven’t really installed it yet because when I originally set it up, I had some weird issues like it would hang up and then I would get these weird codes on the screen on boot and then other times it would just hang. I have no idea what the deal is with it but sometimes I could reboot and it would work just fine. Lately I can’t get rid of this downloading update dialogue though.

Lately I get this downloading update Dialogue all the time when it’s running. It just won’t go away and it never completes. Since I haven’t been using it as a primary device at all, it just keeps getting put on the back burner, but I’m trying to put it in my living room to replace my Pi-3B+ that I’ve had in here for years just for 3-D.

This time when I rebooted it did actually completely reboot, however, during the boot screen, I was waiting with my phone to see if I’d get any kind of weird code and I did. Hopefully it’s legible.

At the end of the day, I uploaded logs and this is the link: avibihecij

Hopefully that helps and I can figure out what’s going on with this thing. Thanks in advance!

Hi

If you haven’t really used the device yet, I’d just reinstall OSMC. See Reinstalling OSMC - Vero V - OSMC.

Sam

Thanks. I’ll try that

Most welcome, let me know how it goes.

The good news is that @tanio99 has worked his arse off on 3D (including FSBS) and OSMC is the best way to enjoy 3D via Kodi, so you made the right decision.

Sorry Sam. I am just getting around to this. I think there are other issues going on though. Not sure what.

I used your Windows image maker to create an OSMC boot disk for my Vero5 on a 16GB SD card. That went fine. I shut down then unplugged the Vero5 then put the SD card in to boot from. The first time I booted it I got a single line error that included “Bad rss-counter state…”. I waited until I was confident that nothing was going to change, unplugged it and tried again.

The second time it booted and gave me a screen that said it would delete the existing image in 45 seconds unless I removed power or something to that effect. After that it started going through a routine with many lines scrolling but occasionally it would stop with the same or similar line on the screen about the rss-counter state. If I waited it would start scrolling again then the same or similar message. It eventually just stopped, AFAICT.

Third trial it SEEMS to be doing something more productive…or at least started out that way. It scrolled a bunch of stuff then paused. Did that a few times and now seems to be just hanging. The lines look like memory addresses and such like it’s a binary dump of some sort. I have no idea if it’s making progress this time or not.

Honestly, this Vero5 seems to be acting like it did with the original image on it. Sometimes it would boot then freeze. I would reboot and it would just hang without ever loading OSMC. Then I could unplug it for a while plug it in and it would boot up like normal again and maybe work or maybe not.

I really have no idea what is going on.

I’m going to let this sit to see if it does anything else or “completes” somehow. I have never had to do a system restore before on anything including my Vero-4K+ I have been running for years. No issues. It’s just this Vero5 that seems wonky.

I am attaching pictures so you can see examples of what I am referring to, but there is no way to get logs or anything like that. It currently doesn’t have a working OS on it because it’s trying to load the new image…I think.

This last image is what it is stuck on right now. It’s been at least 5 minutes without activity.

Please advise.

Hi

No need to apologise for the delay in your response.

Life can get busy.

The device is obviously not stable.
Can you try the power supply from the Vero 4K/4K+ unit and see if it helps? They are compatible.

If you still have no joy, ping support@osmc.tv with a link to this thread.

I left it on all night and this is what I have in the morning still.

I’ll try the 4K power supply and let you know ASAP.

Thanks!

First time I tried with Vero4 power supply I got this:

Tried it a second time with same Sd card then reimaging the SD card. Waited at least 5 minutes each time but it never went past these screens.

So the formatting completes but it then hangs on reboot?

I have no idea if it completes the format. It doesn’t ever seem to “complete” anything from my POV.

After that minute countdown you should see copying files etc…
If you’re not seeing that, it’s not reinstalling.
