Video File Organising By Date

Hi,

I’ve tried to work this out myself but can’t seem to get anywhere with it.

I have video files in folders and as single files.
Is there a way so when I select ‘order by date’ it merges both files and folders by date, instead of keeping both separate. The same thing happens when organising by name, it puts all the folders in order, then further down all the single files.

Many thanks for any help.

You could make a library and then there would be no folders or files. Outside of that I don’t think there is an option that exists to get what you want in a file view.

Ah this is what I assumed from my failed attempts.
So if the external device is managed by another device then it seems what I want to do is not possible. Ah well never mind, at least it wasn’t me being stupid.
Thanks.

I’m not sure what exactly you mean with that statement. Kodi can connect to lots of different types of network file locations and use those paths to generate a library. If your browsing through some add-on or a UPnP source then your likely limited to what you have now. If you gave more detail in the details of exactly what your browsing and how then someone may be able to provide more information.

Sorry realise I’ve explained it pretty bad.

External hard drive used as torrent destination. I don’t want to change the file structure as this will effect my Seeding.
Currently browsing file directory works great as is, just a bit annoying sometimes as things can be difficult to find. Hence the need to arrange by date added, so you can see the latest files & folders without having to look at 2 lists.

If your just doing a ‘watch and dump’ type of thing then going the library route with Kodi is probably a bigger hassle than having your split list. If you are actually keeping most things then you could probably setup your torrent client with categories and have those categories set to different subfolders. This should allow you to move the files to split movies/TV/music (which is the main requirement to setting up a library) without affecting seeding.
