Washed Out Colors After Reboot

Odd situation - whenever my bedroom RP4 / OSMC rig (one of 3x I have) reboots for whatever reason, the colors are washed out. The situation usually resolves itself after I watch some streaming content, but it takes several attempts. For example, Live TV and ripped movies from my server are grainy and washed out at first, but when I stop a movie or streaming service the main menu will look normal and videos are crisp again.

This just started happening. I’ve read other threads about washed out colors but they don’t seem to apply.

Everything else works fine, this is just an annoyance.

I’m running current OSMC and Kodi v20.1.

Here’s a few suggestions -

Did you check your HDMI cable/connectors - try plugging them in and out. Better still clean them with some electrical contact cleaner.

Could be the power supply, try swapping it over with another.

Perhaps you could also send a couple of photos of the ‘grainy and washed out colours’ and also when the menu/videos display OK.

Always a good idea to check your HDMI as @thechrisgregory says but usually bad HDMI connections give you artifacts (like old-fashioned ‘interference’) and flashing rather than washed-out or grainy pictures.

Any reason for not upgrading to Kodi 21?

If you reboot and post logs while it’s in the ‘washed out’ state we can check your environment and settings.

Thanks guys - since it’s an annoyance rather than a bona fide issue I’ve kind of lived with it lately, and my general philosophy on Kodi is to be on rev -1 due for bug / stability reasons.

I’ll capture a log next time it happens.
