WD my cloud or another HDD with USB hub

I wonder if a cheap WD my cloud single bay nas can provide 4k HD audio streaming over wlan?
Or should i buy an USB hub with power supply and attache another HDD to the vero 4k that way?

The simplest and most trouble-free method would be a disk on a USB hub. You won’t have any problems of WiFi interference while streaming 4K, or hassles with Samba/NFS.

That was exactly what I thought…
Do you know if the HDD go to sleep when they’re not in use?

They normally do, though we’ve had a few threads recently where they don’t work as expected (though one turned out to be a 12-year-old disk!).

I assume if I stopp downloding to my external HDD and stop the smb server it should work…

And perhaps mediacenter too. Anything that is likely to access the disk.

It really is a matter of luck, I have samba and mediacenter running 24/7 but when nothing is downloading the hdd goes to sleep without problems. I both used an external hdd and a usb docking station with the same hdd taken out from its case and it always went to sleep without issues.

Just another question on this:
The HDDs I’m going to use both have their own power supply. Do I need an USB hub with power suplly, too?

No – that will work fine.

Well, I’m back with another problem:

I got my new, second HDD and I decidet to plug it directly into the vero, because I don’t use the vero’s remote and could unplug the remote dongle.
I powered down the vero and my first HDD, plugged the new HDD and powerd everything up again.
I could see both drives in kodi and as smb shares on my laptop. Then I startet to download to my new HDD and after a short time, the new HDD wasn’t available with smb anymore. Somehow it vanished, the new HDD was’t visible on my laptop as smb share, it wa visible in kodi anyway.
Could someone please point me to the problem and tellme how to solve it?

Can you access the drives under /media?

Yes, I can.

edit:

I plugged in the drive to my laptop, to see if it’s working and it is working. After that I reconnectet it to the vero and it seems to be working now!
there’s a new folder on the drive called “system volume information”, don’t know if it’s got anything to do with it, but I’m downloading now for half an hour, looks good!
Never mind and thank’s a lot for your quick and kind help (as always! )!

I stream all my media from two different WD NAS and have no problems with 4K video. Well thats not true the video plays without stutter, but I currently have an issue with colour performance but thats an entirely different issue not caused by the NAS.
