I am using latest osmc June 2015 release on Pi 2. I have realised that h265 videos don’t play smoothly on pi 2.
But I have plenty of h265 videos on Pi.
Is there a way to play H265 video as low quality directly or perhaps a way to convert it to h264 first and then play it ? If so what package should I install on osmc to convert them to h264 or lower ?
x265 if i got this right will never be supported for rpi
so you have to convert it with a traditional video encoding software like handbrake or something else
Though h265 is superior to h264, better quality with small size, currently it’s not well compatible with some programs yet. Just use some 3rd party software below to transcode to h264.
A small correction too your statment its not programs thats the problem its hardware atleast for Raspberry Pi and Vero.
I use iDealshare VideoGo to convert H.265 to H.264 or convert H.264 to H.265
Here is the easy guide H.265 Converter - Convert MP4, AVI, MKV to H.265 on Mac Yosemite /PC
In fact, it can batch convert between various video and audio formats.
I often use Avdshare Video Converter to convert H.265 to other video formats or convert video to H.265,Here is the easy guide http://www.avdshare.com/h-265-to-h-264-converter-mac-windows
