Not sure. How many devices do you plan to control?
I have at this moment 9 devices and 9 activities set up in my Harmony.
I never expect more then about 12 devices.
Sofabaton X1S looks decent but not that many buttons and there is no toch screen so the navigatin wheel is occupied
. The original OSMC works great but not enoug keys Nothing possible for mapping and only usabe for the Vero 4K
Unfortunately there really hasn’t been a suitable replacement for Harmony remotes that have appeased the masses yet.
If you think your unit is defective, but liked it when it was working, then I would suggest just getting another one.
People who have their Harmony remotes all dialed in still love them.
The question is how long will the Logitech harmony servers stay up for?
Maybe someone will reverse engineer or find a solution to keep them running for longer.
I think there is an option to run it locallly without going via their servers
that would be great. Still a bit in doubt getting another 2nd device as the previous attempt faold also. BUt that coul also have had a problem if it is a weak radio part in it.
Read testerday that Logitech is terminating support for older harmont devices, Which will not disable your working setup, but make it impossible to make changes for those remotes. THis is currently only for the older devices, but that will make me worrie for the future
not according to their page Harmony Remote Manufacturing, Service and Support Update
Logitech stopt binnenkort met ondersteuning oude Harmony-afstandsbedieningen
Logitech is dropping support for its oldest Harmony remotes | PCWorld.
So as the article said how much longer for the one, elite etc
The link you provided states:
Newer Harmony remotes “will continue to be supported” via the MyHarmony website or the Harmony app, Logitech added.
Logitech, which acquired the Harmony brand back in 2004, announced in April 2021 that it was discontinuing the line of universal remotes.
At the time, Logitech said it would “support our Harmony community” with “access to our software and apps to set up and manage your devices,” for “as long as customers are using [them].”
Logitech added that it would “continue to update the [Harmony] platform and add devices to our Harmony database.”
Do you have any more information about that?
about what, sorry?
About the ability to run it local, would love to have more information about that.
on the remote itself, there is an option to disable cloud account. presumably, with this disabled, the remote would function without access to their servers. not tried it so don’t know
This is why I refuse to purchase products that require you to be online to use them when they technically could run perfectly fine offline.
Harmony remotes are pretty popular so I have to imagine that even if the day comes where Logitech completely abandons them, someone will have developed a work around by then or soon there after.
In a world where things like the Pretendo Network exist I have to imagine someone will do something to keep the breath of life going in Harmony remotes.
Personally, I would start figuring out now how you are going to use it offline, in fact, I would have done that the first day I got one years ago.
something like this? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/allonis/smartremote-a-customizable-remote-control
There are a number of remotes which are fully programmable
using an opensource tool:
https://controlremote.sourceforge.io/
most require a JP1 USB adapter cable to program.
These sorts of remotes can generally be programmed any way you want, any button can be set up to send any remote code to any device (or macros if the remote supports that),
For example, I currently have these 2 remotes, both of which have a JP1 pin connector exposed (under the battery compartment) which can be used to program them.

and Amazon.com
These sorts of remotes come with built-in codes, but the real beauty is using remote master to completely reprogram every button to do exactly what you want.
It’s even possible that a remote that came with your TV or Cable box has a JP1 connector and can be reprogrammed.
Using the remote-master app to import (or even create from scratch) device codes and IR commands can be intimidating, but for the most part, someone will have already created device codes for your equipment, and it’s just a matter of mapping the various functions to the buttons on your individual remote.
for the vero, I created my own device code (and lirc.conf) to map the various functions that I use on the vero.
