Wifi Drops outs on Rasp Pi 2 B with RC

I’ve got OSMC RC installed on a Rasp Pi 2 B and it loads up fine. Using a Wifi Dongle it connects the the internet and allows SSH connections.

However whenever KODI scans the database and tired to download data the wifi cuts out. If left alone the wifi is restored after 20-30 minutes. I’ve tired using a different dongle (that I know works as it was the one off my raspmbc Pi B) and it has the same issue.

To further make things complicated. I installed Sabnzbd and was able to download 2GB of data with no issue. But atempting a scan resulted in the same wifi drop.

I went as far as to curl imdb from ssh and it resulted in a drop.

I’m at a loss. Any ideas? Which logs would be helpful to diagnose this issue?

Thanks

Almost sounds like your power supply isn’t quite up to snuff. I had a similar problem with RetroPi where under load it didn’t have enough power to continue to power the wifi dongle.

Try change wifi channel.

I was thinking that might be the case. The current Power supply is 5 volt 2000mA. Not sure what to try to replace it with.

Doesnt mean it is actually pushing out that much juice, although if it was weak there would be a low voltage indicator shown in the top corner of the screen,

Try adding “max_usb_current=1” to your config.txt

Now the Wifi Dongle doesn’t work at all, but the keyboard will if I plug it in. So I am thinking it’s probably the power supply.

I am not getting a low voltage warning.

Does anyone know where the contact points would be to read what the pi is currently getting?

I have another Power supply, so I will swap it out and see if it makes a difference.

Edit: OSMC thinks it’s connected and is showing me a local IP address.

same problem here wifi connect at boot, but after 5 min or so its disconnecting.

tried different power suply,s

dmesg after boot.

Thanks for the additional info!

I swapped out the Power supply and it didn’t seem to fix my issues. I am not entirely certain that the new one isn’t the problem either as they came from the same vendor. I’ve ordered a new psu that should be here in a few days.

I will update when I get it

IKR
have the same problem

i just installed another wifi adapter, seems to be more stable now, but still not good enuf :-S

I too am seeing this problem
Wifi remains connected for five to ten mins and then drops out.
OSMC config tool says internet is connected but if I go to Kodi sysinfo it says internet is disconnected.
Seems like a bug???

My wifi dongle is a Planex GW-USWEXTREME
works without fault in both Raspbmc and openELEC.
Switched out power supplies as a fault finder from a 1.2 amp to a 1.8 amp supply but saw no difference in the behaviour.

I too am having the same issue on a B+ with Realtek RTL8192CU. Sometimes my device will connect on reboot but most of the time I need to manually connect it in OSMC settings each time. The connection then works for awhile but after some time Kodi System Info shows MAC and Internet as “Busy”. Then the MAC will show up correctly but Internet says “Not Connected”.

Subscribed for a fix.

Same problem here with exactly the same behavior. I’m using the Edimax on a RPI 2.

Edit: I’ve just noticed. Sometimes, after I restart it gets a weird IP, like 169.x.x.x, when actually my router has a static ip for the RPI like 192.168.x.x

I am facing the same issue, first I thought it has something to do with the screensaver, because the disconnection was always at quite same moment

Exactly! I saw the same thing too.

Same problem here … Worked in alpha 4.

And Wifi dongel dont blink just have a solid light.

I swapped out the PSU with a new one, and even tired an alternate pi and the problem persists.

Loaded up an Alpha 4 image and it works fine. So clearly something changed between alpha4 and RC1.

Yup, I’ve the same problem after coming across to the RC from Alpha 4. I thought it might be the screensaver, I disabled it and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’ve noticed it when watching videos, if I can get into the network information it shows the internet as Busy and then Not Connected.

The RC version seems to be more unstable than the Alpha 4 version.

Yeah, I’m giving up and going back to Alpha 4. That was stable.

Edit: actually I’m giving up and getting off wireless and on eth.

Ive tried 3 wifi dongels and all have dropouts on osmc rc and work fine on alpha4 and raspbmc with same power adapter.

The devs are working on fixing this.
