Wifi is working on the ATV1 as on any other device supported by OSMC.
So if you have a problem with a specific Wifi Adpater open a new thread providing logs.
Also I suggest you read thru the forum thread around Apple TV as the Wifi topic has been discussed in there multiple times.
To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. Please see How to submit a useful support request - General - OSMC for advice on how to help us.
If you are referring to internal WiFi, have a search, but more importantly, chuck the internal adapter in favour for a CrystalHD card.

If not, could I just use a USB Wi-Fi adapter which I have lying around?
You can just install b43-fwcutter and it will work

You should start a new thread explaining what you tried to do.
Otherwise just use a USB dongle. You should be using a CrystalHD card, which replaces the WiFi card which uses b43-fwcutter anyway.

hi Sam just tried a usb wifi dongle and wifi works fine thanks
