it looks like 2016 is the year of 4K. So was wondering if there are plans for OSMC to support 4K resolution and possibly playback?
when there is support from the hardware…
kinda hard to do that on limited cpu
dunno if the vero2 supports it
I think 4k is out of scope for the supported arm boards (rpi and veros). But there is an amd64 version coming that would run on pcs and might be able to run 4k content.
Would be nice if just the UI was scalable to 4K screens.
Where can I get 4K material? My understanding is that I can count the number of Blu-ray disks with 4K content on my hands. I know there are some demo clips, but I haven’t seen feature films prevalently in this resolution yet.
Maybe – depends on the device (version of VAAPI, MESA etc). Certainly more of a chance than Pi / Vero at the moment.
I believe you can get 4K at a low frame rate on Pi, and the Vero 2 can do 4K30 framebuffer. If there are requests I can look at enabling this on the Vero 2, and on Pi you can set it with config.txt (I think I read a thread on this some time ago), but the scaling in Kodi isn’t great.
