Xonfluence Skin on August /24 OSMC

This is almost certainly a Kodi/skin problem and I’ve got the “skin guy” looking at this on the Kodi forums (see link below), but in the off-chance that someone else encounters this or has information to add I’ll describe it here also.

I allowed the August 2024 OSMC update on one of my Vero 4k using the update method (not clean install). It seemed to go smoothly with no errors. On the first load of the Kodi Omega 21.1 there was a pop-up stating that the skin I had been using - Xonfluence - was not compatible with this version of Kodi. No problem, everything seemed to work fine otherwise. I think it may have been the next day or two I noted there was another OSMC update which I also allowed and it also seemed to install without drama.

I noted on Kodi forums there is an updated version of the Xonfluence skin, and has been for some time, which is compatible with Omega. I downloaded it but it will not install. I get the red warning:
Failed to install add-on from zip file

  • Failed to install a dependency

If you post a log, we can see what that dependency is and why it can’t be installed.

Thank you Sam.

I used to be more “into” the OSMC/Kodi scene but it’s been several years and old age has turned memories into abstract imaginations. Are there current instructions you can link me to on how to export and send a log? If so I can do it this evening.

Cheers,
Robert

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

Noted another OSMC update so I let that update before I set logging on as directed and tried to install the skin again. Same error.

Hi Robert

I can check this tomorrow evening. Thanks for your patience.

This is apparently the component which the OSMC version of Kodi chokes on:

Have installed the skin and it mostly works but has some loss of functionality without this resource.

Robert

Sorry - was travelling. I will check this after a bit more rest. It’s not forgotten.

There’s no urgency Sam. I’ve got the skin working, the dependency on that additional addon was removed. It’s mostly functional now, just the image selection part doesn’t work as intended but I can live with that.

Cheers,
Robert

The problem is caused by:

2024-08-28 23:28:14.856 T:2921 error <general>: CAddonInstallJob[skin.xonfluence]: failed to find dependency script.image.resource.select

Refreshing the add-on repository would have likely solved the issue

Sam

Which add-on repository? I only have the Kodi one and the skin comes from a zip file, not a repository.

Cheers,
Robert

Sure, but the dependencies come from the Kodi repository.

Thanks anyway.

Robert

You’re welcome. My guess is you tried to install the skin very shortly after updating Kodi and the add-on repository hadn’t updated yet.

Ok, but I would have thought it would have updated two days later but it still failed.

I have several more Vero 4k to update. I’m not optimistic to be honest. I assume I’ll have to kludge them all since that Image Resource dependency doesn’t exist in the Kodi repository, refreshed or not.

Robert

It’s in the Kodi repository and I can see it here: Index of /osmc/osmc/download/kodi/addons/omega/script.image.resource.select

503 error on that link. Seeing it in my logs

That link returns -

Error 503 Backend fetch failed

Try again. Looks OK here now.

Download server was briefly offline today; but was not offline at the time the issue was reported.
