YouTube no longer works on Vero - thinks I am a bot

I have been working on my new Vero V and have installed the YouTube API and can sign in and all is well until I try and play from a searched file. At that point I get a popup telling me to sign in to show I am not a bot. The trouble is that I am already signed in so nothing plays.

Is there a solution to this because YT is one of my most important apps on the Vero.

Further research using my older Vero 4K and 4K+ suggest that the problem started when I allowed the update of YT. Sadly I updated these devices and screwed my access to YT even on the devices that used to work.

I have started over with the older version of YT, 7.0.9.2 but have not yet solved the problem. It seems that YT wants to connect to a web browser not an embedded device with no browser. I have tried the workaround with a front end app Invidious but the API fails at present. The documentation for the Invidious API is well above my pay grade so if anybody has it working please tell me how.

YouTube is an absolute mess at the moment with Kodi.
@anxdpanic – any advice?

Many thanks for the replies. I am not having much success on this and the link to Kodi thread needs some study as I am not sure what device was being used.
I don’t have the time to work on this today but will report back when I can. Meanwhile any advice would be much appreciated.

Here, it does work when using the testing releases from this repo: Index of /osmc/osmc/download/dev/anxdpanic/repositories
The Kodi repo isn’t up-to-date when it comes to the Kodi add-on anymore.

It’s worked like this on my systems the last months now.

Hi Chillbo,
Many thanks, I would never have found this. Now I have it I shall try and post results.

Which one of those zips/repos to use?

I use testing official as it’s the same as in the Kodi repo when it comes to features, but up-to-date.

These testing builds might not be absolutely stable and perfect though.

How do I get hold of the actual add-on. When I use your link and get the unofficial zip file it does not give me the latest version but gives me YouTube v7.1.1.6. How do I get plugin.video.youtube-2.0.7.zip please?

It’s a repo you install and then you can download the add-on from there… See the instructions here: Installation · anxdpanic/plugin.video.youtube Wiki · GitHub

I have it now and thanks. Will report further progress in due course.

Hi and thanks again. For the benefit of those who have found there way through the problems with YouTube, using the link from Chillbo is the only way to go.

There is only one quirk I have found and this is common to all versions I have tried; I have had to enter the API keys manually on screen. If I edit the .xml file and include the keys there, for some reason I have not yet understood, the keys are not shown on the API screen even after reboot.

Hope this is helpful and all hail to Chillbo!!!

I also recently had some problems with the addon on one of my Vero V boxes. To solve this I created a new set of oauth credentials but that wasn’t enough. When I signed in google only prompted me once instead of twice. However, on my PC I got the prompt twice and it started working. Next I just copied the userdata folder of the plugin to both Vero V boxes and then it worked fine.
