Youtube + Resolution Switching

I currently have a Vero 4K+ order on the way, but I do have a couple of questions before I get the device:

  1. How is Youtube in 1080p / 1440p / 4K accessed in OSMC? Using Kodi Add-ons or a standalone app?
  2. With either method in 1, is resolution switching enabled for Youtube? i.e. 1080p files will output at 1080p, 4K files will output at 4K, etc.

Kodi Addons. There are no seperate App’s outside Kodi on the Vero.

With the DASH it generally should work, but so far I have not seen any success above 1080p

Does this mean that I will need to manually set 1080p to avoid upscaling at 1080p by Kodi / Vero 4K+ and manually set 4K to receive full resolution on 4K youtube videos? Is there an intermediate case at all?

1080p will not be upscaled by Vero but output as 1080p

I took some mental shortcuts with my reply. Let me clarify:

1.Does this mean that I will need to manually set 1080p instead of leaving display resolution at 4K to avoid upscaling at 1080p by Kodi / Vero 4K+? I assume if I set resolution at 4K and play a 1080p youtube video, the Vero will upscale to 4K.
2. Do I need to manually set 4K to receive full resolution on 4K youtube videos? I assume that if I set display resolution to 1080p, the Vero will not dynamically switch to 4K resolution if the 4K quality setting for a specific video is chosen.

Vero GUI resolution by default is set to 1080p and should be kept that way.

The vero will automatically switch to 4k if a 4k source is being played

Thanks, you’ve been very helpful!
