After August update massive stuttering on 25 FPS videos

Hello Friends,

Since the August update, I’ve been experiencing massive stuttering with all videos that have a frame rate of 25. Everything is fine with other frame rates. Everything was working great before the update. I’ve tried several settings in the player settings, but nothing helps. Can anyone else reproduce this behavior? Since about half of my TV-series are no longer watchable, I’ll probably have to revert to the last program version.

Here are the logs: https://paste.osmc.tv/oviqapitec

Help is appreciated

Is there a sample clip you could share with us?

Thanks

Sam

Heres an example:

Die.wilden.Siebziger.S01E01.Der.Strassenkreuzer.mkv

Sorry, deleted the file accidantally.

This should work:

Die.wilden.Siebziger.S01E01.Der.Strassenkreuzer.mkv

Its an episode from That 70s Show in German, 25 FPS. But every video with 25 FPS is stuttering

Addition:
I’ve reinstalled the OSMC Version from March → Smooth Playback of all videos. Then installed the August-Update again → Stuttering of all 25 FPS files. Looks like the frame rate switching does not work properly in the new version.

Another thing: the WAIPU PVR-Client crashes with sad face if i switch to a private television channel like RTL or Pro7 (perfect playback of public television channels like ARD or ARTE). But this is also with the march version of OSMC now, which is strange. A few weeks ago there was no problem at all, so i think WAIPU changed something in it’s authentication process.

I upgraded yesterday. Your clip played fine before and after the upgrade.

I just reset the Vero V completely with the August update for testing. Complete reset with USB-Stick Image, naked OSMC without plugins or anything.
Played three testvideos from three diverent TV shows. All 25 FPS, all of them with micro stuttering all the time, seems they are all playing with the false framerate. Testet on TV and on the Projector. Videos with 24 or 23.976 fps are playing fine.

Made the same with the March Version: perfect smooth experience with all videos

Can’t belive you have no problems.

Heres an example of another TV-Show with 25 fps:
Monaco Franze_S1E02.Die.italienische.Angelegenheit…mkv

One difference between your log and mine is I have a whitelist which includes 1280x720 so that first clip plays at 1280x720 50Hz, not 1920x1080 50Hz. Apart from that, I can’t see any clues.

Hm, never changed anything on a whitelist in Kodi

Very strange…seems no one else has this problem. Or no one is seeing micro-stuttering  So i have to go to back to march version and wait for the next update

Still it would be interesting for us if you whitelisted 1280x720 modes and tried that.

Of course I tested also full HD movies and many other with different resolutions on a complete resetted and naked Vero V without any changes. ALL videos - no matter what resolution - with 25 FPS have microstuttering with the august version. I made that not one times, i made that 5 times. The information tool of my Sony Projector shows 50p on this videos, which seem correct and make it only more confusing.

I dont know how to whitelist resolutions, thought on a resetted Vero every resolution is allowed.

Maybe anybody else can test that too? Think its nearly impossible that only my Vero V have this phenomenon.

Here’s a guide to the Kodi whitelist modes -

quote:

" 3) How does using a whitelist help?
First, if you don’t use a whitelist, any video that has a resolution of less than 1080p (for example, DVD rips) will be upscaled to 1080p (assuming the Kodi GUI is running at that resolution). If you do use a whitelist then 720p, 576p/i and 480p/i videos can also be output at native resolution. (Section 4 explains why this is desirable)."

I’m not sure if my issue is related to this thread or not, it worries me a little that noone else is complaining about this, but since the August update I experience massive intermittent stuttering on all videos on my Vero V, which never once happened before the update. Should I try to downgrade back to the previous version?

If you want it solved, you should always upload logs as a minimum.

You can downgrade, but it’s unlikely to ever get solved then if no one else experiences the problem.

I tried to follow this guide, but after each reboot debug logging was automatically disabled, even if it was enabled before the reboot. So I rebooted, enabled debug logging and started two videos: one from the hard drive and one from youtube. Both stuttered. Moreover, I noticed that as soon as the videos started all 4 CPUs jumped to 100% (according to the on screen metrics). Is that normal? I can’t really compare it to before the August update, because I never enabled debug logging before, but I’m guessing it isn’t…

I can see the issue.

Please reboot and check for updates again and install them. This should solve the problem. Your system is only partially upgraded.

I rebooted and went to MY OSMC > Updates > Manual > Scan for updates and it said there are no updates available. How should I check for updates again?

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade + reboot seems to have solved the issue :crossed_fingers: Thanks @sam_nazarko, I hope it’ll be fine now.

It will be

Did the issue get fixed? Cause I have the same issue. Lot of stutter with 25fps video. It’s 4k HDR video at 25fps … it’s kind of unwatchable.
Therefore wanted to hear if it’s fixed for you … since the thread says fixed but I feel that’s on the other guy’s problem.
