Hello there,
I was hoping you could assist me in improving the wireless speed of my Vero 4K box.
Currently, while connected via Wi-Fi, I achieve speeds of up to 40Mb/s. However, when using a wired connection, the speed improves significantly to 200Mb/s.
I frequently use “Cast Kodi” to cast YouTube videos from my MacBook to the Vero 4K. Unfortunately, with the 40Mb/s wireless connection, many videos buffer heavily. When I switch to a wired connection, buffering is greatly reduced. However, this creates another issue: my MacBook and Vero 4K are no longer on the same Wi-Fi network, so “Cast Kodi” no longer works.
For reference, I’m using a Huawei HG8247H router, which does not support 5GHz connections. Despite this limitation, my MacBook can still achieve 100Mb/s on the same Wi-Fi network.
Do you have any suggestions on how I could either improve the wireless connection for the Vero 4K or enable “Cast Kodi” functionality while the Vero 4K is connected via Ethernet?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Have a look at this thread, there’s some clues here - Vero 4k+ slow on WiFi, fine wired
I’m the OP on the thread Chris linked, and the associated email alert roused me from my long-term slumber. It’s nice to be back!
I’m still using the same Vero 4k+, and until very recently had continued to have very unstable download speed. Recently I got a new modem from Sky which finally offered a 5GHz option as well as 2.4, and that’s made a huge difference. I can’t say if it’s the modem itself or the 5GHz aspect, but I now get much more consistent speeds at the top level of speed expectation for my crappy copper connection. I am also now able to use the supplied remote and dongle again, which is much better than the IR setup I had been using.
I never really got to the bottom of what was happening originally, but that’s the situation now.
Thank you both for the replies.
I tried removing the remote dongle and it improved the speed from 40 to 48 Mb/s. Better but not close to the 100 Mb/s I get with the laptop.
I think you should consider improving wireless connectivity by replacing your router/wireless access point.
Thanks, I guess I’ll have to change the router…
