Atmos audio drop outs

Having audio dropouts on an Elemental rip.
Audio is True HD Atmos on my Vero 4k+.
Seems to drop out on loud parts.

Have my Vero on passthrough mode for audio, to Yamaha RX-A880

Reboot twice, turn on debug logging, play the movie till it reproduces the issue, stop the movie, upload logs, post url in this thread.

Loud = high bitrate which is what Team Kodi fixed a while back. If the dropouts are always in the same place, can you cut out, say, a 30s piece of the rip, check it still has the dropout and upload it somewhere so we can test it?

Likely cables needs upgrading in my opinion, does your AVR support ATMOS?

Also make sure you have not set the UI to 4k as that can lead to audio issues. Two most common causes for audio drop outs I have found over the years.

Ah, a Disney title with Atmos drop out… nothing new but thought that was fixed.
I have an Atmos setup and am more than happy to test it on my setup.
Just give me a time stamp of the position it drops out that you can reproduce.

Also, the file you gave the MediaInfo for is a Hybrid Remux (Disney+ Dolby Vision remuxed into the UHD), do you have the original disc to test with as well?

Cables have not changed and did not give issues.

I’ve tried to find a specific spot that it keeps happening, but it doesn’t. When an audio drop out happens and I rewind 30 seconds, it doesn’t happen a second time.

There is no original disk to test with

Will keep trying to recreate the issue and upload the logs.

Sounds like a buffer issue from the SMB share.
I have made a rip from the original disc and I “acquired” the same hybrid remux you are having issues with.
I will test both at some point, but seeing that I have zero interest in the movie itself and you can’t duplicate the issue at an exact point, I’m not expecting to find much since I’m not going to watch the movie twice.
BUT if you can give me an example scene or timestamp that you have heard the issue that would help out a lot.
I can play the files from the beginning to the same spot and see if I get anything.
In my setup I have my HDDs connected directly to my Vero via USB so if your issue is a network buffer then I doubt I’ll have the same issue on my end.
That being said, before the recent fixes from Kodi I could easily duplicate the issue on various Disney titles.
The Incredibles comes to mind.
There’s a scene where he is running across a bridge in the enemy base and cannons are shooting swelling blobs at him.
So if you are interested, and you have The Incredibles, you could check that scene out for Atmos drops and see if you have any problems.
If you play that scene fine but The Elementals still gives you issues then… well… I wouldn’t know for sure but I would suspect the file is bad.

I have some results for you.
I took my person remux and the “hybrid remux” and put both on a blank SSD I had laying around.
I plugged the SSD into the Vero 4K+ and tested both files.
For the remux it has a drop out right after the Pixar intro gives way to the ocean.
If I back up 10 seconds and let it play again it doesn’t drop out at that point, BUT if I stop the file and launch it again from the beginning it will drop at the exact same point every time.
I tried with subs enabled and disabled, since a subtitle pops up right there, but either was didn’t matter, it still drops the consistently if you start from the beginning.

Then I tried the hybrid remux and it does the same thing but in a different spot.
Right after some cloud looking guys get on a zeppelin and the camera pans down to show the lobby area.
If I skip back 10 seconds it won’t do it again at that spot, BUT if I stop the video and relaunch it from the beginning it will do it at the exact same spot every time.

I’m sure it does it more but I didn’t watch beyond these points.
So it doesn’t appear to be a network buffer issue if it’s doing it from an SSD plugged directly into the Vero via USB.

We’ll see if one of the devs notices something in your log.

NOTE: That little light in the bottom right hand corner of the video that pops up when the audio drops out and comes back is the AVR display showing that a Dolby Atmos signal is detected. So you have the audible and visual confirmation. The blinking light at the center bottom is the SSD activity light.

My Vero is indeed connected through network.
Server can supply a stable 1 Gbit throughput sustained

I had it at 10:25, the lighting the candle scene.

I actually experience audio drop outs on Vero V, never experienced this on Vero 4K+. Not only applicable to Atmos, also on DD+ 5.1.

Vero V connected to Trinnov Altitude32, strange part is - when replacing Vero V with Vero 4K+, audio dropouts are gone. Dropouts are periodically - can go hours between them, or they can come frequently with minutes apart.

To add to the complexity I get very short audio dropouts every half an hour or so on atmos files, but also get the same on a coreelec box. I figured it was a Sonos issue but maybe there’s more to it.
