Atmos issues

Finally found some time to re-rip the UHD of Toy Story 2. Getting a LOT of av sync messages, using the latest MakeMKV version 1.16.7. I can’t remember what it was when I ripped Toy Story 2 before…, since it’s been a long time…

Anyway, verdict is… marginal improvement. It still glitches at 50:49, albeit it’s very subtle, and also at 51:34 there’s a big sound pause/glitch. Oh well. I give up.

Interesting, but I don’t hear those glitches. What Make/Model of AVR do you have? I assume you’ve made sure it’s got all the latest updates. For the record, I have a Yamaha RX-A660.

Yes it’s a Sony HT-ST5000 hooked up to my CX LG OLED. I also just checked it downstairs in my movie room with a second Vero 4K+. JVC RS790 projector and a Denon 4300H with a proper Atmos setup. It does not glitch (or if it does it’s so very slight that I can’t say for sure it is) but the 51:34 glitch/blip is still present, and obvious. So, we definitely improved on my prior/early Remux in terms of the 50:49. The 51:34 is still the same blip as my earlier remux.

Did you test at 51:34?

Just verified, no glitch at 51:34. I wonder if we have different editions, at 51:34 the movie is very quite, just singing. Can you get a screen shot of where you hear the glitch so I can be sure I’m at the same part of the movie?

EDIT: I guess we do have the same version as your MakeMKV log info seems to match exactly with mine. But a screen shot wouldn’t hurt.

EDIT2: When you are selecting the audio to rip, are you selecting both the TrueHD Surround 7.1 and the linked DD Surround 5.1 track, or are you just selecting the 7.1 track?

I have both tracks selected. Let me grab a screenshot…

Yep, that’s the exact same spot. And no glitch for me with my Yamaha.

I’m out of ideas to try. My guess is that some AVRs are more susceptible to Atmos problems. With my Yamaha I’ve only had one movie that had Atmos issues and that was Free Guy. No other movie (even when ripped before the MakeMKV fix) glitched on my Yamaha. I guess the question is is it a MakeMKV problem (still not quite right with how the sync issues are handled), a Kodi issue or an AVR issue. I’m suspecting it’s a combination of the above and I’m just lucky to have an AVR that isn’t as picky about Atmos as some others are.

Thank you for trying, - really appreciate it. It is definitely a curious one, that’s for sure!

No problem. I wish I could help more. But we did learn one thing, TS2 did improve for you when you ripped with a newer version of MakeMKV.

I guess if you want to waste some time you could rip again, but instead of using the Default audio settings you could try FLAC I don’t know how well the Atmos would translate to 7.1 FLAC. I do have some 5.1 FLAC audio files and they sound great on my system.

Only so much brain power I can expend on this, but I have watched Encanto about 400x now without any glitches of any sort. I imagine this would have been a disaster on prior versions of OSMC and/or MakeMKV.

Thanks again.
