@Chillbo can confirm. He has tested it.
It’s good, Maze Runner is fixed but I don’t have Free Guy. Hopefully @sam_nazarko will include it in the OSMC 19.2 release.
For the brave, you can download this and copy it to /usr/lib/kodi/ in place of kodi.bin. ie
wget https://collab.osmc.tv/s/e3wkIN3mkjjy7Ty/download -O kodi.bin
sudo cp /usr/lib/kodi/kodi.bin /usr/lib/kodi/kodi.bin.backup
systemctl stop mediacenter
sudo cp kodi.bin /usr/lib/kodi/
systemctl start mediacenter
If you run into trouble, just stop mediacenter and copy kodi.bin.backup back to kodi.bin.
Just going to double check this one.
Intro: flawless
Wow. Going to test this shortly with several movies with issues (The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 etc). Will report back.
Thank you for the instructions as that stuff is generally tricky.
I’ve watched the first 15 minutes (so far) of Free Guy and it’s perfect with this patch. We owe @jogal (kodi) and @grahamh a big thank you for this
EDIT: Watched Free Guy to the end and 100% perfect.
This is honestly the best news I’ve heard in a long time. I will use try the version above soon.
I’ve also got a coreelec box that I want to patch which means I need to work out how to compile Kodi myself.
I was scrolling through this thread to see if I could determine if this binary works on the Vero 4K+ or not, but am not seeing anything. Are the instructions for all OSMC hardware platforms, or just certain ones? I wouldn’t mind testing this on my Vero 4K+.
It’s compiled for Vero4k and 4k+ as a patched version 19.2. Since we haven’t released 19.2 yet, I can’t guarantee compatibility with binary add-ons. Hence the need to keep a backup of the release kodi.bin.
I’ve rushed this out as there’s understandable excitement from kodi users on all platforms and we’d like to help Kodi to perfect this and get it into 19.3.
I’d be surprised if CE aren’t onto it already.
I’ll be testing this this this morning (Pacific Time). Hyped af to see if this works.
Can confirm - after all this time Atmos now appears to be working. I tested two titles I knew were trouble
Pirates of the Caribbean 4: At 17:45 there’s a sound cutout, and at 18:28, and then for 2 whole seconds at 18:35 to 18:37. Now FIXED.
Also The Incredibles, at 1:02:29 there’s a cutout, also fixed.
Excellent! Looking forward to this being integrated into future Kodis, barring any unforeseen issues. So happy! Thank you to ALL involved.
Here also no issues anymore, nice patch!
@sam_nazarko is probably so happy that I won’t keep pestering about this problem anymore. So thrilled!
I actually think that the increases in posting by many of us about this issue in the last couple of weeks has maybe reminded the devs of the seriousness of this issue
Or maybe @jogal just tried to watch Free Guy and realised just how bad it was
I’ve been complaining about this issue since at least May, 2018! Can’t believe it’s been at least 3.5 years (first post of this thread).
I’m just over the moon it’s fixed.
I am exactly the same. I personally think this has been the most important issue facing kodi the whole time you mentioned.
To be very honest, from a dev point of view, this will most definitely not have done a thing! It’s most annoying and discouraging to have users complaining and even demanding a fix (not pointing fingers at anyone, but this can partly be seen in the Kodi thread).
All devs are doing this in their free time, nobody is getting money for it. This is true for us here at OSMC, same as Kodi. The issue must’ve been annoying for Kodi devs same as for Kodi users, but nobody had the free time to dig into it. Small reminders might help with issues that can get drowned and don’t affect many users, but let me assure you that this issue was definitely not one of those. In fact, it might’ve even delayed any of the devs to make time to fix this issue for the aforementioned reasons… I’d confidently say that a dev’s motivation in open source is not money, but partly fun, partly ambition, partly the will to share knowledge and skill to help others with different knowledge and skill - in other words: the will to share. But this also needs some basic amount of appreciation and consideration - not only after a fix, but most definitely more so before!
So, as much as I can understand the frustration about this issue personally, asking for it very often or even demanding fixes does. not. help.
Nobody should take this personally, but at the same time, it really shouldn’t be taken as a lesson out of this that overreaching nagging and demanding is helpful or does get anything fixed!
@Chillbo you’re definitely right. It wasn’t the intention of my post to suggest the nagging had made the difference.
I actually meant the exact opposite.
My last line
Was what I was meaning.
So my first sentence was supposed to be tongue in cheek.
I’m sorry if it didn’t come across like that.
I most definitely appreciate all that the devs do in their own time
