DVB-T210 HD TV Tuner, does this work on OSMC?

Hi all

i’ve puchased a August DVB-T210 HD as I had read that it works on a PI. I’ve tried it on the latest build of OSMC and it’s not detected in the TVheadend interface.

Sorry, i’m new to this Linux stuff, has anyone got this working with OSMC?

I’m running a raspberry PI 2, with nothing apart from the TV tuner plugged into any usb ports.

Thanks in advance
Neil

HI

As I have the same hardware with august DVB-T210 (V2) and pi 2 I’ve installed OSMC, with the same result…
I’ve Installed tvheadend backend and client and nothing is detected in the TV adapters section of the web interface.

This setup works on openelec.

Martyn

Hi @sam_nazarko, do you have any thoughts on how we can get this working?

Thanks in advance

Neil

Please provide dmesg output so we can identify the chipset and get it working.

S

The USB tuner is Silicon Labs Si2168

thanks! @sam_nazarko for looking into this

There are two varieties of this tuner (at least?) If lsusb reports 0572:c688 it is version 2 with the silicon labs chip as reported above. The necessary drivers are in the v4l media_build git and I’ve just finished building them in with the instructions here and here. Not a quick process but it seems to be successful.
The tuner is now showing up in tvheadend but I can’t figure out how to get it to scan for channels. It was simple on Linux Mint and openelec on the Pi but OSMC doesn’t seem to find the dvb scan files - where are they?

This tuner requires Kernel 3.19 to work out of the box. So until OSMC remains on 3.18.* you need to get media_build…

Good job for getting the driver compiled - my original commands in the other thread had hardcoded versions so they obviously need some edits to work right now.

If the tuner now shows up in tvheadend, you should be able to create a Network (DVB Inputs - Network) and select the MUX corresponding to your location. Then you go back to the adapter, select the DVB-T one, make sure it’s enabled and select the Network you just created, then Save. Now go back to Network, select the Mux and do a force Scan.

From this point on it should be a standard TVheadend setup so you should be able to follow the TVHeadend guide? http://docs.tvheadend.org/

Indeed. I just spent another hour or two compiling tvheadend as well. The version in the AppStore just doesn’t work and is way behind the latest version. All I wanted to do was compare OSMC with OpenELEC (which works perfectly out of the box). I hope someone on the team can find time to bring v4l and especially tvheadend in your distro up to date.

Hi Sam

Was wondering if support for the DVB-210 tuner has been added in the latest release of OSMC?

Thanks

Neil

Hi Graham, thanks! so this should now work?..
…If i install the latest version of Kodi and TVheadend (not the one from the Appstore)?

Thanks

Neil

If you are running OSMC already, with automatic updates, it should have updated itself a couple of times since June.

I think the appstore tvheadend has been fixed. Give it a try. If you’re new to linux you don’t want to be compiling things.

thanks Graham, i’m getting there… TVHeadend now detects my card, i’ve followed instructions here…

but the scan result always comes up as Fail, any ideas why this may happen?

thanks

Neil

Neil, I can’t remember exactly the sequence I followed and I’m away from home atm with no remote access.

I do remember the tvh developers keep changing the interface in subtle ways which make any how-tos potentially out of date quite quickly.

I’m going to assume your tuner works with other software so you’re sure it can get a good signal. Then it’s worth checking that the frequencies of the pre-defined muxes you have chosen are correct for your area (where are you?)

When I get back, I could try setting up osmc/tvh from scratch with the app store version to see what happens. Let me know if this would be useful or if you’ve already cracked it.

Are you sure that the tuner is working (e.g. tried it on your PC) and that the antenna is properly connected? “scan fail” can have many reasons.

I have just done a fresh installation of OSMC and Tvheadend and I think the most likely thing is you need two firmware files to make the adapter work. You can get them here. They need to be in /lib/firmware/ on the Pi. If you know how to use ssh then the easiest way to get them is:

cd /lib/firmware
sudo wget https://github.com/OpenELEC/dvb-firmware/blob/master/firmware/dvb-tuner-si2158-a20-01.fw?raw=true -O dvb-tuner-si2158-a20-01.fw
sudo wget https://github.com/OpenELEC/dvb-firmware/blob/master/firmware/dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw?raw=true -O dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw

Thanks Graham! really appreciate your help with this…

i’ve just run those commands using Putty, will have a test tonight to see if TV headend plays ball

cheers

Mistake: please see the edited wget commands above. I missed out the raw=true bit. :flushed:
