Frameskipping in some 4K files

Yes – but they are probably best discussed in their thread; or things will get a bit confusing!

When there’s some improvements to test, they will be made available

Sam

Thanks Sam

Initial testing after July release: Frameskippings are gone!
Great work Sam!

Glad to hear that.

It seems I am running into the same issue with the Advanced Video Codec. Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : High@L5.1. I can play other 4k videos fine but this one video formatted in this format keeps buffering plays for a second or two then stops for a couple of seconds and so on. Was this fixed in the July/Aug update. I just received my Vero 4k and upgraded to the last update. Not sure if I needed to do any other configuration. Thanks for any other input on this.

The video might be out of spec.

Can you paste the MediaInfo of the file?

Thank you for the quick response. Please see below.

Are you paying the file from connected storage or a network location? Because Ethernet cannot even maintain this bitrate.

Ok, that is what I was afraid of… yes, I am playing the file from my Qnap Nas which has a gigabit port but is being bottle necked somewhere. I know the vero only supports fast Ethernet so maybe that is it?

Such high bitrates are not even necessary for 4k content. I suspect this file is nothing more than a piece of performance test media? You should not be running across such files in the wild.

102GB movie :fearful:

I hope the movie is good

Try play it locally first.

You can tweak your buffer size – this has been necessary before and we’re working on improving performance for very high bitrate clips

Sam

Ok where can I do that and how much more or less should I tweak? Thanks

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO%3AModify_the_video_cache

But would not help for a file above 94Mbit average rate. For that either would need a very stable AC wifi connection or a usb gigabit connection

That will work on Ethernet; just about.

@f0o made some changes to improve performance of some high bitrate clips; but I haven’t yet revisited things.

First thing I’d do is try and play it locally and see if that improves things. If it does – we know we are headed in the right direction.

Thanks! … Ok, can anyone recommend a USB gigabyte adapter for the Vero4k or is it not worth it. I do have an AC Router that is literally right next to the Vero. Maybe I should just switch to wireless?

Try to switch to wireless. You have nothing to loose as the AC adapter already build in

If I put the movie on a USB 3 drive will that be local enough?

Switched to wireless and it was 10x worse.

You’ll have to try to know.
