Full SBS Playback

I just got my Vero V today and loaded it up. FSBS movies play, but the image is cropped to the original aspect ratio of the video file, so the top and bottom on the image is cut off. How do I fix this?

Stereoscopic playback is the only reason I bought the Vero. I have been using my PC, and Kodi plays FSBS files perfectly, no cutoff, so I assumed the Vero would as well since it uses Kodi. I just wanted to have a first world system that played the files automatically that didn’t involve me having a bunch of steps and cable switching with my comp.

Can you let me know the title / file that you played?

We will check this promptly.

Sam

It’s a file from a movie I ripped. The movie is Antman.
Antman screenshot

How did you rip it?

Can you provide a sample?

Sam

I ripped it with MakeMKV and then used BD3D2MK3D to make the SBS

Here you go:

Also I ripped the subtitles to work 3D (part of the uploaded file), but they don’t playback properly. I can get them to playback properly in my VR headset, but not on Kodi.

Frame Packed output (MVC) is certainly supported.

So no support then? Kodi on my pc plays it just fine.

Can you please provide us with full MediaInfo as well as full instructions on how to rip the movie in the same way?

Sam

Media info:

The full MediaInfo output (text based) would be great, as well as an explanation of how you ripped this material

We just need a way to reproduce here.

Sam

I use MakeMKV to Rip the disc.

Then I use BD3D2MK3D to convert to full side-by-side.

A couple of settings that I make sure a set:
-On the 5th tab “Options ans Go!”, make sure that “half” is not checked.
-Then I under settings from the top, make sure that “32:9” is selected in the FullSBS section
-That “Generate 3D subtitles anyway” is selected as well.

Thank you

As mentioned in the other thread, we’re not yet there.

I realise that re-ripping your entire collection is probably not practical, but if you do have some time to spare, note that the Vero 4K+ and Vero V do play MVC 3D very nicely in most cases. So if you simply use the result of the initial MakeMKV rip without further processing, that should play fine; and it will have slightly better image quality than transcoding to FSBS. The file size will probably be larger; but if you prioritise small files over picture quality, then HSBS or HTAB should also work okay.

Okay.

May I make a suggestion? Please change the tech specs to say “half 3D side-by-side” and “half 3D top-and-bottom” to avoid confusion.

I was just hoping for a nice and easy box to help play my 3D’s. I now have a $200 non-returnable paperweight. Oh well.

I have 3 other ways to play my movies: disc, PC w/ Kodi, and VR, so I’m not going to re-rip my collection.

I have arranged for the reseller PiShop US to give you a full refund.

We will look at this in a couple of weeks, but it is low priority. Thanks for advising how we can reproduce the problem.

Hi Sam, in an email abouit full SBS you asked me to post an example file here for you to use…

Megan Full-SBS

Sorry about the size, but it’s the smallest example I have.

I generally follow this advice. I rip everything I can to MVC. That being said, wouldn’t FSBS be the same resolution since it contains both 1080 streams in their entirety? I do understand that if encoded to HEVC or something there are some losses there, but I was thinking that a 10GB FSBS file could potentially give quality comparable to a 35GB MVC file, plus it would be possible to stream to a 3D TV from any device capable of handling the 3840x1080 frame.

Am I not understanding something else?

Basically you’re right. The problem here is, that the resolution that is sent when playing frame packed content is 1920 x 2205 and not 3840 x 1080.

If we want to support FSBS we have to adjust all the calculations done in the kernel to reflect that. And that needs time, especially since the kernel supposes that playing SBS content always means HSBS. So we have to introduce a new mode in the kernel for FSBS and we have to stay compatible with HSBS of course. That topic is still on my todo list.

I see it coming, I need to clone myself …
