Kodi sad face crash on updating TVShows

Not sure if mkvtoolnix will work with his avi file

Even after removing that episode it still crashes https://paste.osmc.tv/sawusemuru

I’m having the same issue.

According to a thread on the Kodi forum it is related to TVDB scraper, and the fact that TVDB have changed their API:

After switching to The Movie Database scraper, as suggested in the above thread, I no longer have the problem.

MKVToolNix should work on an AVI file. It will convert it to a MKV with no quality lost.

But looking at the link that @ReneNP provided it appears to be a TVDB problem that just happened to show up around the same time as Sams unrelated fix.

Luckily, I didn’t start to divide my folder into two folders, and again, and again… Let’s wait for the tvdb folks to sort their shi… ny website out.

I should have thought to test on my Vero that has not been updated yet…

TheTVDB sent out an email to all API customers and released a rollback.

Back to square one.

Yea, I noticed this problem today too with one directory of TV Shows. When I realized that source was still using tvdb I changed it to themoviedb (which also has TV Shows) and everything was fine. I pretty much stopped using thetvdb some time ago because they seem to have pretty regular stability issues, and my interaction with the devs has always been very negative. In fact, the post linked above is just about the most civil I’ve ever seen them be in the face of user feedback.

I’m getting the same error on my installation of OSMC. I switched my TV database from TVDB to The Movie Database and the problem has gone away, I’m guessing it’s a problem with the TVDB scraper?

For what it’s worth, here are my logs… https://paste.osmc.tv/heqihapeho

EDIT: Of course I should have bothered to read the thread in it’s entirety, definitely a TVDB issue. Glad I backed up my .kodi folder before resetting!

As described earlier in this thread, theTVDB had problems migrating their website and API, and rolled the change back.

Unfortunately, I must agree with your point of friendliness on thetvdb. Unfortunately also, for my main TV show, TheMovieDB only holds 64% of the data for the episodes. TheTVDB, on the other hand, has like 99%.
Also, the naming scheme differs between both, and I’d have to rename all episodes, change the scraper, and lose my watch status.
Plus, I don’t know what will happen with all the other TV shows I have. Is there a preview possibility to see how a TV show will look like in Kodi if I changed the scraper?
And most importantly, all my scripts I use on my NAS to administer TV shows are all set to use TheTVDB. :frowning:

From posts on the Kodi forums, it looks like the problem has not been resolved yet.

It certainly hasn’t on my end. Still blue face since they said they rolled back.

There are a few workarounds:

Aye I saw those eariler, thanks. Was just posting to comfirm it isn’t fixed.

I noticed an update from Kodi for thetvdb scraper this morning. Scrolling through the thread on the Kodi site about this, it looks like this will, at a minimum, fix the crashing. If you don’t have Kodi set to auto update your addons, you’ll need to initiate an update manually.

Just my 2 cents on this problem but I had something similar starting last Friday. I have Kodi set to scan for new content when booting up since it is only rebooted occasionally however on Friday it would start to boot up then crash at about the same point (tv shows using the TVDB) in updating the library and then crash and restart and crash again…etc. I was able to catch it between crashes and change the settings do it would not try to update on reboot. Mu fix for this may have happened after they rolled back the changes to the TVDB but by first cleaning the library I was able to then update without a problem. As for changing to the TMDB they do not have the listings for the old series of Doctor Who that the TVDB does, also different naming conventions.
