May version available for update?

I see the May version has been out for a while but mine has not updated. When I ‘manually’ scan for updates it says “there are no updates available”.
I’ve also tried
sudo su
apt-get -y update && apt-get -y upgrade && apt-get -y dist-upgrade && sudo apt-get clean && apt-get -y autoremove
from a SSH terminal
I get:

Thanks for your help

This is on a RPI3 with 32gb Sandisk Micro SD - Attached is a 2 GB HDD through a powered hub.

What does cat /etc/os-release say?

Thanks

It says
PRETTY_NAME=“Open Source Media Center”
NAME=“OSMC”
VERSION=“April 2016”
VERSION_ID=“2016.04-2”
ID=osmc
ID_LIKE=debian

ANSI_COLOR=“1;31”

This is the problem

Running apt-get upgrade will cause problems. It’s not the correct way to update OSMC. You need to use dist-upgrade.

I’m unsure what changes may have been made. I’d recommend a fresh install and either updating via My OSMC or using dist-upgrade in the future.

Sam

Thanks

But trying desperately to avoid that as it takes a long time to get TVHeadEnd setup. I’m in an isolated region and have to set up many channels and Picons manually. Took a few hours last time I installed a new system when I upgraded my SD Card.

Is there a way to backup TVH? (I guess I should ask in that forum)

Also, why didn’t the inbuilt updater install the update? - the apt-get was a last resort

Back up ~/.hts

Can be backed up with a tarball quite easily and is transferable to a fresh install

Sam

Okay thanks Sam, will try again on a spare SD card.

Off topic, I’m sorry but

Second time I’ve been caught on the download page - got RPI1 rather than 2-3. Wondering why I had the multi-color screen, then remembered - When I first started playing with these a few months ago it took me a few hours to work out what was wrong.

May be worth flipping them around now that 2-3 are more popular.

All worked out in the end.

Note, needed to delete to old .TVH folder and replace with backup copy.

Thanks
Mark
