Is there a way to see within the osmc file system, or anywhere else which chipset/drivers are now (and hopefully moving forward) supported or depreciated?
You can see which kernel modules are included, but that is no guarantee of VID/PID compatibility.
Are the MT7601 and RT5370 chipsets OSMC supported? If so this would be an OK stopgap solution as they are readily available.
Until OSMC supports RPi4 (@ late 2020) many of us with older RPiās will need to eke another year out of our current RPiās.
I downgraded the kernel while I searched for a different wifi adapter. How do I reapply the updated kernel after I replace the hardware?
EDIT: ādpkg-reconfigure rbp2-image-4.19.55-6-osmcā seemed to work.
Same problem.
Can you guys let me know how to go back to previous version of OSMC using GUI?
Raspberry is my friendās house so I canāt really visit there often and now I cannot connect to SSH either.
Only things that my friend could do is using GUI.
Let me know. Thanks.
You canāt. You can plug in a usb keyboard and press āescā during boot to get to the terminal and thenā¦
The suggestion to simply upgrade to a RPi3 or RPi3+ is reasonable so I looked into it as an alternative to locating a compatible WiFi dongle.
I checked with our distributor for RPi in Australia, Element14 (Farnell) and unfortunately they will not have stock of either the RPi3 or RPi3+ until late April 2020.
For now I have downgraded the kernel and stopped updates until I find a solution.
Same problem with Realtek adapter.
Maybe the right thing is to migrate to a Rpi3, but the good with Rpi2 is that it works with just the power of a tvās usb port, while for the Rpi3 that is not sufficient.
Very sorry to hear that a popular family of WiFi devices are no longer going to be supported on OSMC. I have switched over to LibreELEC which continues to work with my Edimax dongle, I hope their developers continue to support these devices.
LibreELEC are stopping support for these devices in LibreELEC 10. They will no longer use downstream Realtek drivers after that period.
LE10 will be released just after year end if Kodi release cycles are accurate.
Edit: after speaking to the LE guys it looks like these changes will come in to effect with LE11, so youāll have some time there.
Does somebody have a amazon/ebay link for me to a supported wifi dongle?
I donāt want to buy 5 dongles to check which is working.
Thank you!
Hi, Im really liking a dongle based on the RTL8812BU. (ASUS USB-AC53 Nano)
But as it is RealTek based is this a no go or is it only the older RealTek chipsets?
Some clarity on what is in and out would be helpful. Thanks.
I realise that this topic might be getting tiresome for the mods and devs, but Iāll try my luck and ask another question.
I found a wifi dongle with a ralink/mediatek 7601 chipset, which, according to the /lib/ files should be supported, but itās not working.

Please help!
This looks like a replay of Raspberry Pi B + USB Wifi Dongle not Detecting
The thread wasnāt solved, so Iām guessing that the upgrade to the kernel hasnāt helped. Perhaps @sam_nazarko can provide some more detail.
Indeed. We have updated the kernel so Iām not sure why this still remains an issue.
There will be another update shortly
Sam
Hi Sam,
I noticed an update for rbp2-mediacenter-osmc:armhf and, base-files-osmc:armhf . Iām not sure if either if those should have helped, but but I still received this from dmesg:

This is really concerning as that is exactly the Mediatek chipset that I also chose to replace my Realtek dongle.
After the 2019-11 update, Wi-Fi still does not work, is it now forever?
If not, I can upload the logs if necessary
(I forgot exactly what kind of dongle but EDUP is written on it)
May I suggest a slightly different solution to the removed wireless networking drivers.
I used an old Netgear AC1200 model EX6150 that I had in a drawer. Set it up as a repeater and plugged a network cable plugged into it and my Raspberry Pi and Iām back up and running on the November build. Kodi thinks itās wired and the Netgear kit hops it onto the WiFi.
Yes - the downstream Realtek drivers are deprecated and wonāt work until there is a suitable upstream driver.
