Osmc config.txt glitch

Run sudo rm /var/tmp/uploadlog.txt and try again.

It won’t overwrite the file created by another user.

Sorry to be a simple soul, but: try : grab-logs again? Or try: ls -la /var/tmp again?

After you run the remove command run grab-logs -A as user osmc.

osmc@mediaplayer:~$ grab-logs -A

Remarkable: ran it without sudo this time, and it works. I’ve been using sudo for a long time, because I was convinced it wouldn’t work without. So what have I been doing wrong? Trying to learn…

Edit:

osmc@mediaplayer:~$ ls -la /var/tmp

So the uploadlog.txt now has user osmc whereas before it had willem as user.

I haven’t been logged in as user willem for quite some time, and the pi has been rebooted quite a few times in the interim. So: how come user willem was the user of uploadlog.txt?

/var/tmp , even so the name could you associate that, is not temporary. With mount | grep tmpfs you can see which folders are mounted via tmpfs

So you must have run it once as user willem which then created the file that only could be overwritten by user willem or by using sudo.

Thank you for explaining.

I have been playing around with different users, indeed.
So this situation will occur whenever someone has more than one users on their device and runs grab-logs from these different users?

It seems like that. Generally using multiple users on OSMC is not really suggested especially of the sudo capabilities

I see.

I’m only a novice, so I didn’t realise that.
I started using a pi, with OSMC only.
Then I discovered the pi (with OSMC) could be used for much more: Node-RED, Pi-Hole, sharing USB-devices through usbip.
My OSMC-pi grew into being the “server” for these kind of applications: stable and low-power-consumption, with eager communities all round.

I didn’t realize these “use cases” could be mutually exclusive, or at least, would interfere with each others operations.

Enough about this, I guess, as I have been drifting off topic quite monumentally, so: thank you for your prompt and expert support. Much appreciated.

Ok here is my logs @dillthedog @Tom_Doyle https://paste.osmc.tv/ubohefamex

Here is what ls -la/var/tmp spits out

Hi,

I would recommend you backup kodi settings, and either replace the sd card or reinstall osmc on the current one, then restore your settings.

Thanks Tom.

@Tom_Doyle so should i get a new sd card or reformat it?

Hi,

Depends how old the sd card is, if its older than 2 years; I would get a new sd card.

Thanks Tom.

@Tom_Doyle yeah it’s about 4 year old, but i don’t use it daily

If i do get a new micro sd card what size should i get? My previous was 16GB, i think minimumly it needs a 8GB?

Yeah I would say minimum is 8GB while it depends on your library size

@fzinken all my videos are on a flashdrive if that’s what you mean.

Not really, as the Database and thumbnails are still stored on your SD Card. But 8GB will get yu quite far. I think above 80.000 items that might become a issue

Support OSMC and get a good card:
