OSMC - Failed Update? ‘My OSMC’ won’t start

Hi guys,
Was currently on the October update, thought I’d run a manual update and see if there was any updates through the My OSMC manual update check.

It downloaded an update and successfully installed without interruption or errors.

After rebooting Into my Aeon MQ8 skin, I’m seeing ‘OSMC failed to start’.

I’ve tried starting the program manually through the menu but it just won’t start.

The system also fails to play any type of content.

Any suggestions or guides for a complete newbie? Note: anything involving terminal or command line I’ll need basic easy to follow instructions :frowning:

Please post some logs with grab-logs -A

I think Sam forgot this bit: Working with OSMC via the command line - General - OSMC

Thanks

You’re running the experimental repository for advanced users.
We made changes to My OSMC that aren’t ready for prime time yet. This is expected behaviour.

If you want stability, it’s best not to use the buster-devel repository.

I think this must be a really old setting, as I’ve not changed the repository for a very long time.
Million dollar question, anyway of (easily) going back, and can you point me in the right direction of the stable channel?

Are the correct sources;

deb Index of /debian stretch main contrib non-free
deb Index of /debian stretch-updates main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ stretch/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://apt.osmc.tv stretch main

It’s not a setting and can only be configured via the command line.

You’d want to edit /etc/apt/sources.list and remove that buster-devel line.
For now, you can fix My OSMC add-on by running: sudo apt-get install --reinstall mediacenter-addon-osmc=3.0.689

Sources.list edited, reinstalled ok, OSMC now starts but sadly unable to play any media :frowning:

These aren’t debug logs, so it’s hard to speculate.

Can you please post some debug logs?

Thanks

It’s my mistake and unrelated. You can follow this thread for more details: KODI not playing any video content after 18.9 update.

I trust the OSMC add-on issue is now resolved.

Ha! no worries, will sit tight. Thanks for your rapid response Sam.

Just to let you know that the fix has now propagated so everything should work well for you now.
